Our client, a reputable law firm is currently looking for a Director of Finance. This firm has an excellent culture and many career development opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
– Maintain oversight of the day-to-day bookkeeping, accounting, banking, and cash flow;
– Ensure calculated payments, taxes and premiums are submitted by their deadlines;
– Oversee payroll process;
– Remain current on employment laws and ensure firm policies are compliant;
– Manage the accounting department, perform yearly reviews and report to HR;
– Remain updated on legal industry/data management trends to ensure the firm is following current standards;
– Prepare budget and forecasting;
– Work with Lawyers and CEO to set the lawyers/clerk rates each year. Also, ensure special rates are updated in Accounting system;
– Work with external auditors and prepare audit working papers and schedules;
– Prepare and present financial information for monthly, quarterly and annual reports;
– Ensure the payouts of lawyers compensation are distributed;
– Ensures rapid and consistent collection of receivables by refining and implementing control mechanisms;
– Assigns and authorizes cheques, purchase orders and invoices;
– With input from the CFO, responsible for the formulation of accounting policies, procedures and controls;
– Hiring, training, mentoring and supervising accounting staff and;
– Additional duties as required.
Requirements:
– University degree in Business/Accounting along with a CA, CPA, CMA, CGA, CMT Designation or working towards the designation;
– 7+ years of experience as a Director of Finance or experience within a similar role;
– Experience with PCLaw, and e-billing is a must;
– Experience within a Professional Services environment is preferred;
– Extensive knowledge of all relevant Federal, Provincial and local accounting requirements;
– Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel;
– Management and or supervisory experience;
– Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently;
– Attention to detail in all areas of work;
– Strong communication skills (both written and verbal); and
– Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills.
