Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our PRESTO’s Technology & Solutions Office is looking to hire a Director Technology, Cloud, Infrastructure and Integration, reporting into the Chief Technology Officer – Payments. This position supports our existing system as well as an exciting modernization roadmap ahead. This position will design and oversee an open ecosystem of platforms and tools that enable the client and customer experience for PRESTO.
What will I be doing?
- Provide strategic and technical thought leadership and accountable for the infrastructure, public cloud and data and analytics/machine learning technical architecture external PRESTO Payments clients, CTO & CIO, Product and Program management and internal executives, and vendors
- Partner closely with product management, business partners, external clients, technology partners and suppliers, Metrolinx I&IT, to define PRESTO Payments’ technical infrastructure, public cloud, and data and analytics/machine learning technical architecture and roadmap
- Develop practical PRESTO Payments enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies to advance the maturity and effectiveness of the architecture community. This includes establishing an architecture review board, policies, standards, and architecture best practices, architecture blueprints and patterns, application portfolio management, application portfolio health assessments, and technology lifecycle management.
- Lead architecture governance including chairing PRESTO Payments architecture review board to ensure the alignment of architects to PRESTO Payments technology target state and standards
- Coordinate among distributed architecture and technology teams to facilitate delivery of PRESTO Payments infrastructure and capabilities.
- Partner with Metrolinx I&IT technology on the development of enterprise standards, technology, tooling and common initiatives
- Conceptualize project scope, including, application development, testing, deployment, software quality assurance reviews, and vendor and contract management activities
- Own architectural and critical design decisions across the development lifecycle, deployment production, and postproduction support.
- Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders and vendors to monitor their needs and oversee the prioritization of projects and releases in the delivery roadmap
- Develop architectural models that describe the current state technology stack and recommendations for future state, providing direction for continuous evolution
- Ensure our architecture enables flexibility, scalability, supports growth objectives, and offers the best possible PRESTO customer experience, integrating across a growing group of suppliers and partners
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
- Demonstrated experience in future state planning affecting infrastructure, data integration, security, core systems and processes – combination or all areas of business analysis, applications / systems engineering, data/information architectures and technical architectures, designing complex, integrated solutions
- Broad expertise across architectural domains and with diverse technologies, with significant experience in the payment space or comparable technologies preferred
- Proven experience in designing and planning highly complex, scalable, integrated, open platforms that perform brilliantly and deliver demonstrable business and customer value
- Experience and enthusiasm around participating in a technology ecosystem, enabling a variety of partnerships to deliver customer value while managing associated risks through open APIs delivered through an integration platform
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure components, virtualization technologies, cloud architectures, middleware and SOA, storage, databases, networks, monitoring, public cloud, preferably Azure.
- Strong knowledge of design and architectural patterns, standards, policies, and frameworks, (TOGAF, IT4IT, ITIL, SIAM would be considered assets)
- Strong understanding of IT security and compliance regulations and cyber security methodologies, frameworks, and practices (e.g., NIST, ISO 27000x COBIT and ITIL in an operating production technology environment)
