Job description:

  • perform outreach and on-site programs about reptiles and amphibians to a variety of live or virtual audiences
  • be the primary contact for communications to schedule and coordinate outreach and on-site events
  • assist with the maintenance of a large captive collection of reptiles and amphibians for program usage
  • develop educational resources for public usage, in print or digital formats
  • assist with the supervision and management of a large team of staff and volunteers (Canadian and international) in a live/work residential setting and participate in all aspects of the community
  • assist with the operations and development of a nature centre and related facilities including nature trails, etc.
  • assist with field research, program evaluations, data analyses, and other technical tasks

Duration: Initial contract 4-6 months, but it is expected that the position will be extended
Salary: $640/ week

Requirements:

  • Strong oral communications skills. experience presenting to audiences of 50-500 people of mixed ages
  • Comfortable and charismatic, on stage and on camera
  • Superb organizational skills, experience with spreadsheets and calendars in Windows and Android
  • Positive attitude and willingness to help people get over their fears are essential
  • Familiarity with virtual video presentation platforms e.g. Zoom, Skype, Facebook Live, etc.
  • Flexibility regarding scheduling as client and animal needs affect plans, weekends and evenings required
  • Live on-site full-time in subsidized, shared accommodation; able to thrive as part of a close-knit team in challenging situations and a busy live/work environment
  • Valid G driver’s license and good driving record, experience with larger vehicles and trailers is an asset
  • Recent graduate of a post-secondary institution in a related program, and eligible for YES funding
  • Experience with reptile and/or amphibian husbandry is an asset
  • Experience with digital photography, videography, editing, social media platforms, etc. is an asset
  • Experience scheduling, training, and managing staff or volunteers is an asset
