Position Summary:
We are currently seeking an Education Program Manager to join our team on a 0.8FTE basis (30 hr/wk). The successful candidate will provide operational management of our education program, which provides curriculum-linked, outdoor-based nature experiences for students and teachers across the province of British Columbia. By directly engaging with local natural environments and centring traditional Indigenous knowledges, we offer hands-on activities and experiential learning opportunities that foster healthy childhood development and cultivate environmental sustainability.
Position Overview:
FUNDRAISING and FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (25%)
 Develop and execute annual program budget and track all program expenses
 Assist the Development Team, prepare narrative and budgets for funding proposals and reports
 Assist with stewardship of funders and donors
 Support the Development Team to develop and carry out annual revenue plan
PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT (20%)
 Develop and coordinate strategic local, regional, and provincial partnerships with schools, school districts, community groups, ENGO’s, and First Nations partners
 Co-develop place-based educational initiatives and collaborative projects
 Prospect and develop strategic corporate partnerships
ADMINISTRATION (20%)
 Manage annual programming calendar
 Maintain and oversee an Education Annual Operating Plan, and other planning documents as required
 Ensure delivery of grant obligations
 Create and execute outcome-based program evaluation framework
 Respond to telephone calls/emails related to school-based programming
 Maintain files, paperwork and associated records in database
PROGRAM DELIVERY (15%)
 Coordinate delivery of Teacher Pro-D trainings and deliver in collaboration with Educators
 Deliver classroom programming one day a month or as needed
 Provide individualized support to teachers in order to help them teach in and about
nature (e.g. finding and sharing resources with them, helping with funding application
for their classes, connecting classes with other conservation/education organizations as
appropriate etc.)
STAFF SUPERVISION and COLLABORATION (10%)
 Hire, train, and supervise team of Environmental Educators (1-3 staff)
 Coordinate and facilitate weekly or bi-weekly education team meetings
 Assist educators with the coordination and training of education program volunteers
MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS (10%)
 Support the Communications Team to deliver on the Education Program marketing and
communications plan
 Promote our online library of free educational resources, and developing new resources
when appropriate
 Develop content for promotional materials for educational programming and professional
development workshops
 Network with educators, school districts, regional educational associations, non-profit
organizations, and government agencies
Qualifications:
 A university degree in Education or Environmental Studies, or other relevant field/
proven life experience of equivalent nature
 Minimum three years demonstrable experience within environmental education,
outdoor education, youth engagement, and/or experiential education
 Experience in program and staff management in a not-for-profit organization
 Strong financial literacy, particularly within the context of a not-for-profit organization
 Demonstrable experience working in a formal classroom environment, with an
understanding of provincial school system operating procedures and provincial
curriculum for grades K-8
 Strong familiarity with environmental education theory and approaches
 Strong familiarity with and understanding of environmental justice, social justice, and
cultural contexts within B.C.
 Extensive experience working with children and youth from diverse backgrounds
 Excellent English language written and verbal communications skills
 Class 5 driver’s license preferred
 Fluency in French an asset
Compensation: $24.04/hour, 30 hours/week. We offer extended benefits and a generous
vacation allowance.
