POSITION SUMMARY:
Working with a dynamic and innovative team at de Souza Institute, part of the Michener School of Continuing Education, the Education Specialist – Instructional Designer/Course Developer position provides an opportunity to work on a leading edge initiative that delivers healthcare education across Ontario and Canada. As an Instructional Designer/ Developer, you will contribute to de Souza Institute’s and the School of Continuing Educations e-learning programs by collaborating with educators and IT team members to design and write storyboards, design documents, and develop e-learning courses as required.
The successful candidate will be comfortable in collaborating with team members to create, design, and produce effective visual presentations for blended and online learning experiences using graphics, animations, artwork and photos.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Under minimal supervision, design and develop interactive online training programs
Design web-based courses that effectively and creatively use technology to meet educational and business goals
Develop, test, and debug modules so that they work without defects
Analyze existing instructional materials to identify potential areas for design modification using new technologies
Participate in planning and design meetings with educators and other staff
Estimate workflow and meet deadlines
Participate in establishing course development schedules
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years practical experience in developing online/multimedia courses
- 2+ years practical experience in designing online learning solutions, grounded in adult learning principles
- Experience with 3rd party course authoring tools (e.g., Storyline, Lectora, Captivate) for developing online courses
- Experience with graphics designing tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (e.g. Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas)
- Demonstrated ability to design creative, interactive online-courses
- Strong creativity to develop innovative approaches to create new learning experiences
- Ability to work independently and demonstrated skills in working within a team under strict, tight timelines
- Demonstrating a high degree of self direction, initiative and motivation
- Superior interpersonal, communications and computer skills and the ability to work with people from a variety of different groups
- Post secondary degree in training / education or web development
- Plain Language writing experience an asset
