Duties
- Utilizing knowledge of patient safety and seizure identification to monitor up to 10 patients simultaneously and alert Nursing staff to seizures and active safety events, as per established standards
- Operating, troubleshooting and ensuring equipment is performing in an effective and efficient manner
- Preparing written hand-off reports required to document all seizure events for shift change and technologist review
- Participating in teaching, training and other educational activities
- Performing minimal patient care responsibilities to facilitate the provision of optimal patient care
- Observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures
- Adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality
Qualifications
- At minimum, completion of an undergraduate degree program in Bachelors of Science or recognized equivalent
- Polysomnography experience considered for this position
- Two years practical and related experience and/or 6 months on the job training required (Willing to train the right candidate)
- Must understand/know electrical safety standards
- Familiarity with analyzing EEG recordings
- Willingness to learn visual recognition of seizure activity
- Required to multitask, e.g., flagging seizure activity on one patient whilst still monitoring 9 others
- Strong decision-making skills to identify which cases warrant RN or MD intervention
- Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
- Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, background and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
- Membership with the Canadian Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologist (CAET) an asset
- Membership with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and/or other relevant organizations an asset
