Job description: Seasonal contract position (March – June), based out of the LSRCA Operations Centre located at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area (Bradford West Gwillimbury), Ontario
This contract offers commitment to a minimum of 21 hours of orientation and training. Additional hours will be scheduled based on operational needs.
Salary: $16.30-$20.38 per hour
The primary role of the Environmental Education Supply Instructor is to lead and support program delivery at Scanlon Creek Nature Centre. This position reports directly to the Manager, Education.
What you offer:
– Post-secondary education in Natural Sciences, Outdoor Recreation, Education, Environmental Studies or related discipline
– Scheduling flexibility and availability; providing service delivery leadership and support
– Demonstrated experience leading environmental education programs to students from elementary to secondary levels applying a variety of methodologies, particularly outdoor and experiential education
– Strong verbal communication skills required for the delivery of educational programming and public presentations
– Working knowledge of the provincial education curriculum – primarily in science, geography, history and social studies for multiple grade levels
Requirements:
– Current First Aid/CPR certification
– Current and clear Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) check
– Valid G-class driver’s license with own vehicle (*Note: work site is not accessible by public transit)
Assets to be considered:
– Member in good standing with Ontario College of Teachers
– Proficiency in a second language (French)
What you will do:
– Successfully complete program orientation and instructor training
– Within an ‘as-scheduled’ and ‘on-call’ basis, deliver outdoor education programming and students from K to Grade 12 at the Scanlon Creek Nature Centre
– Potential to support Outreach Education program delivery (school-based environmental education presentations at schools within the Lake Simcoe watershed) as required
– Support the preparation, maintenance and repair of programming materials and equipment
– Potential to assist with program review and development (i.e. delivery resources, lesson plans)
Hours of Work: School programs: potential for 0-35 hours per week (full contract term), 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Public / Youth programs: potential for additional hours, evening and / or weekends
