In this role, the Environmental Health & Safety Lead- remote is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of HSE programs and training for all Syngenta Canada sites and employee groups. The HSE Lead role is a position with the flexibility of working from Guelph, ON, Calgary, AB, or remotely across Canada.
Accountabilities
Monitor and maintain HSE policies, procedures, standards and permits to ensure compliance with Syngenta global requirements.
Travel to Syngenta Canada sites and district team meetings to; increase HSE visibility and facilitate HSE Culture, assist with program implementation and deliver employee training.
Manage Fleet safety which includes driver training, review of MVR’s and follow up as necessary. Closely collaborates with Fleet Administrator as well as HR.
Support HSE compliance with local, municipal, provincial, and federal regulations and internal Syngenta requirements.
Act as a resource and coach for HSE questions and concerns.
Collaborate with site HSE Representatives and employees to strengthen HSE Policies, programs, and training. Support, administer and communicate safety programs, safety initiatives and training.
Track all injuries, illnesses, near miss events, environmental incidents, environmental noncompliance and investigate incidents, and aid in determining and implementing prevention methods to avoid recurrence. Closely work with HR for reporting all relevant injuries/incidents to Workers compensation.
Establishes and monitors regular communication of Health and Safety information, which includes updating information, training, etc. Make recommendations and ensures that Health and Safety Program is effective and maintained.
Verify that safe work procedures, job hazard analysis are current and updated.
Complete HSE reporting requirements accurately and on-time.
Maintain HSE metrics and analyse trends.
Identify HSE solutions and best practices.
Review environmental permits, licenses, and requirements (e.g., Air, water, Hazardous waste, etc.)
Update HSE portals with required information/forms/policies and share updates with the relevant teams and/or across the organization.
Qualifications
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health, Science, Engineering, or related technical area
HSE subject matter expertise with a working knowledge of existing and developing HSE legislation and security requirements in Canada and all applicable provinces.
Knowledge of the agricultural business considered a plus.
Canadian Registered Safety Professional CRSP Designation
Minimum of 3 years of job-related experience. Agriculture experience an asset.
Experience in collecting and analysing data.
Prior experience in assessing trends and implementing solutions.
Experience in HSE management systems
Project and change management skills and experience
