Role description:

Arcadis is currently seeking to hire an Intern for the Western Canada Team. This is a 4 month work term from January 2024 – April 2024. The intern will join Arcadis as a Junior Environmental Scientist or Engineer. The successful candidate will co-ordinate and execute activities assigned by Project Managers pertaining to the design, coordination and implementation of environmental projects including environmental site assessments, groundwater monitoring and sampling programs, and remediation projects. This includes conducting site visits and inspections, monitoring and supervising drilling, water treatment and/or other remediation activities, preparing field notes and collecting soil and groundwater samples. Other responsibilities include maintaining knowledge and familiarity with provincial regulatory frameworks, diligent interpretation of environmental data, evaluation of sample results, and participation in various marketing activities (assisting in proposal preparation, obtaining quotations etc.).

This position is based in Calgary, Alberta. Work primarily comprises field level environmental sampling and assessment activities at commercial and industrial sites in Western and Central Canada. Arcadis has a strong collaborative culture so this will be an opportunity for you to use, learn, and apply foundational skills in the environmental field.

Role accountabilities:

  • Interest and commitment to expand digital skill set to adapt to evolving industry practices
  • Knowledge/experience in the areas of data science, data management, and/or geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a range of desktop applications, with an emphasis on a strong skill set in Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge/experience in environmental sampling preferred
  • Ability to apply standard engineering/scientific subject matter to problem solving
  • Experience overseeing subcontractors in an industrial or construction setting

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Valid driver’s license (work related travel will be compensated)
  • A commitment to Health and Safety excellence
  • Willingness to work independently in a field setting for extend periods of time, with some work taking place in remote areas

Qualifications & Experience:

Working towards a degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Environmental Sciences; or Diploma in environmental technology preferred.
