Job title: Exercise Testing Technician
Job description: The Exercise Testing Technician performs diagnostic testing which evaluates a patient’s cardiac and/or cardio-pulmonary response to exercise. The Exercise Testing Technicians will support Plain and Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing, Stress Echo and PV/ABI testing. Major responsibilities include: to work as part of a team to perform diagnostic exercise testing procedure; explain the procedure to patient in order to obtain informed consent and maximum performance; taking a brief patient history; recording medications in current use, obtaining written consent: performing resting ECG/BP and examine for abnormalities; observe pulmonary function associated with exercise including pre-/post- spirometry and max VO2; observe blood flow using Doppler Ultrasound; observe and assess patient tolerance to exercise, assist in determining the end point of exercise tolerance; quickly recognize cardiopulmonary emergencies and act accordingly; operation of computers, metabolic measurement systems, bicycle, treadmill with ECG monitoring systems. Assist in training of students. Maintaining department 10-minute code blue cart contexts and area resuscitation items and support protocolling as needed.
Qualifications
1. Cardiovascular Technician diploma/ CardioPulmonary Technologist / Registered Respiratory Therapist Diploma (or equivalent) with active registration and membership in good standing applicable registering body (e.g., CSCT)
2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cardiopulmonary function as it relates to the various diagnostic testing
3. Demonstrates ECG interpretation skills.
4. Minimum one year recent experience in Exercise Stress Testing lab within the last five years, including all aspects of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing preferred
5. Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment
6. Demonstrated effective communication (written and verbal), organization and interpersonal skills
7. Demonstrated effective problem solving skills, critical thinking and the ability to prioritize in a fast paced clinical environment
8. Demonstrated initiative and judgment appropriate for the position
9. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate behavior consistent with HHS Values Based Code of Conduct
10. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining and improving individual competence as well as contributing to the education and development of students
11. Demonstrated advanced arrhythmia interpretation skills
12. Current BLS certification
13. Minimum of one year experience in ECG Lab with demonstrated interpretation skills within the last five years considered an asset
