Specialized Reporting & Solutions Management (SRSM) Group is responsible for specialized financial and regulatory including OSFI, CDIC and IIROC requirements for selected businesses, selected Canadian regulated subsidiaries and Consolidated Bank.

Job Description

The primary role of the Equity Underwriting Analyst is to support the Equity Capital Markets (ECM) group in the TD Securities Front Office. The Analyst also supports the accounting for the Merger and Acquisition (M&A) business line.

Key responsibilities within this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Liaise with Equity Capital Markets (ECM) associates to collect necessary data to calculate and report the profit and losses on all of TD Securities’ equity underwriting deals.
  • Calculate and report capital requirements for committed Equity Underwriting deals to comply with IIROC rules and regulations. Review all documents and transactions to ensure proper capital requirement is calculated.
  • Collaborate with ECM and Syndication Operations team to resolve any discrepancies related to equity underwriting process.
  • Record and reconcile all management, interim and final payments received from other brokers throughout the month.
  • Ensure all payments of underwriting fees for TDSI lead deals are done in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile and disburse final fee payments to syndicate members. Accuracy and timely manner are key aspects of the final fee disbursement.
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payables in a good standing order. Ensure A/R and A/P spreadsheet reconciles to G/L at all time.
  • Ensure completeness of all file documentation
  • At month-end, post accounting entries, perform various reconciliations and prepare month end reports for the balance sheet and P&L.
  • Perform flux analysis, revenue share analysis and respond to queries from Finance and other internal areas.
  • Responsible for the full accounting cycle for Merger and Acquisition (M&A) business line, including revenue bookings, monitoring vs. policy to ensure revenue recognition guidelines and cut-off rules have been met before accruing PNL, managing A/R and A/P to ensure timely collection and payment of all balances, and maintaining a good relationship with front office and M&A external clients
  • Create and update procedures for daily and monthly processes.
  • Cross train individuals within the team on the above functions. Be cross trained and act as backup on their functions.

Requirements

  • Education Requirements – University undergraduate degree in any of the following Finance/Economics/Accounting/Commerce
  • Specific Education Requirements – CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) and/or CFA designation achieved or working towards (preferred, but not a requirement)
  • Attention to detail and be able to handle huge volume of mails and deals on a daily basis
  • High level of analytical skills and trouble-shooting ability
  • Thorough knowledge of the complete accounting cycle
  • Be able to timely resolve ongoing issues and prepare month end reports within tight business deadlines
  • Beneficial to have any knowledge of the various source systems employed by the businesses supported
  • Strong micro-application skills, especially as it applies to using current technology to create efficiencies in the performance of daily responsibilities, or the improvement in the presentation of reported data
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, with emphasis on the ability to communicate with senior levels of Front-office and Operations staff and management. Communication includes both verbal and written skills, as well as a critical listening ability, and the ability to ask probing questions to understand the various concepts presented/discussed. The individual must also be able to motivate staff of all levels through their communication abilities
  • Team-oriented: works well with other team members and keeps all relevant individuals, including Management, updated on useful information in a timely manner. An ability to establish priorities
  • Independent thinker and takes initiative to capitalize on opportunities or minimize problems
