We have an exciting new opportunity for a Finance Systems Analyst to join our team supporting the Residential Energy business, where British Gas is the leading supplier by market share of Gas & Electricity. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the maintenance and development of the IBM Cognos Planning Analytics model and its Power BI suite which are the core source of Residential margin forecasting and reporting.

In addition, you will liaise with multiple teams to produce updated Residential Energy gross margin forecasts along with reporting and insightful analysis for key stakeholders showing the impact of changes in key drivers.

Key to ensuring success in this role will be building strong working relationships both within and outside of Finance, for example, with Pricing, Demand Forecasting and Financial Control teams as well as supporting an agenda of continuous improvement & automation.

Key Accountabilities include:

Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders in the business and Finance Operations/Group

Develop deep understanding of key drivers of revenue and costs, cashflow, and risks and opportunities and be conversant with the translation of commercial issues into financial impacts

Support Transformation activities through delivery of changes to forecasting/reporting methodologies, to drive greater efficiency and standardisation

Complete the BAU month-end process to ensure timely publication of the Cognos data and PBI reports

Support the maintenance of system integrity, for example to develop and review data integrity check reports and ensure documentations are updated regularly

Support the continuous systems standardisation and improvement process

Liaise with IT to ensure the Cognos software and servers are updated according to the Centrica’s policy

Working with the business to analyse financial and operational (value driver) variances and recommend corrective action

Support the delivery of an accurate, efficient and transparent plan/forecast which meets finance and business stakeholder requirements

Translate financial business performance into clear reporting content (for inclusion in MBRs and FPRs etc).

Support the rigorous control and maintenance requirements of the Cognos models to reflect changing business needs or complex market developments (e.g., price cap, hedging)

Support and influence decisions, empowering the business to self-serve appropriate data to inform decisions independently

Carry out non-standard / bespoke analysis to support business decision making

To thrive in this role, we are looking for someone who is motivated by continuous improvement and high-quality output as well as being a team player with experience in building a strong network of relationships across the business and finance teams. You will also be able to demonstrate advanced MS Office skills, namely Excel & hands-on experience in configuring PBI reports and using SharePoint as a major tool to feed data to PBI is essential.

In addition:

Holder of any recognised OLAP system certificate or an accounting qualification

Communication of analysis and insight across the business

Maintaining financial forecast models

Experience with Business insight software (ideally Power BI, Power Query, DAX and Cognos)

Experience with Database structures and/or syntax (e.g., any OLAP, multi-dimensional software such as Cognos, HFM, Anaplan, Tableau)
