This is an office-based position, located in our Central Administration office in Maple Ridge BC, with free on-site parking and walkability to the WestCoast Express and major bus routes!

The Position

Under general supervision, the Financial Accountant assists performing fiscal support functions for the agency in this CARF-accredited agency. Establishes and monitors systems and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting principles, WJS policies and procedures, provincial and federal regulations, and audit requirements. Areas of responsibility may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, contracts and other fiscal/accounting disciplines.

Scheduling

One (1) permanent, part-time position, based at the Central Administration office in Maple Ridge, BC. This position is 24 hours per week, with a weekly schedule (to be confirmed at time of hire) of:

  • Monday through Wednesday, 0800-1600

In Your Role You Will

  • Performs variance analysis. Initiates resolution and corrections as needed.
  • Monitors accuracy and timely recording of the BC Service Level Hours.
  • Participates in supporting the finance team during peak periods and/or overflow of workloads while in ensuring compliance with agency, provincial and federal policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Coordinates and produces financial, budget and other special reports, to include monthly financial statements and/or other funds distribution reports.
  • Performs account reconciliations.
  • Assists with journals and in preparing account reconciliations.
  • Assists in tracking, updating and recording computer assets and licensing.
  • Assists in reviewing contract revenue to ensure income matches contractual agreements; liaises with funders regarding payments as required; reviews contract revenues and allocations with managers and the accounting department. This includes invoicing and adjustments.
  • Organizes and prepares financial information for year end and to expedite audits.
  • Assists in the preparation of audit work papers for year-end audits and with external auditors.
  • Collaborates in establishing and implementing short and long-term goals, objectives, and policies and operating procedures consistent with those of the agency to ensure efficient and safe operation of the department.
  • Contributes to establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy physical environment and adheres to health and safety requirements.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

  • Bachelors’ degree in related business, administrative, financial or other discipline or a diploma in financial management
  • Will accept an Accounting designation (i.e. CA, CGS, or CMA), or actively working towards completing the program.
  • 3+ years of directly related financial experience; related to the specified duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Skill in the use of computers and related software/applications, including Windows, Sage Intacct, Concur, and Microsoft Office 365; willingness to learn and adapt to new software.
  • Ability to re-prioritize and adjust to interruptions and changing requirements.
  • Ability to comprehend information and communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including business communications.
  • Knowledge of management principles and policies.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing new strategies and procedures.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.
  • Ability to analyze budgetary expenditures for compliance with approved budget.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate accounting information, policies and procedures in a manner easily understood by the customer.
  • Ability to develop and maintain record-keeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to plan and implement short and long-term goals.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, work effectively both independently and as a member of a team, and adapt to a variety of schedules and working conditions.
