THE STRATEGIC ROLE: Financial Accounting Director

Reporting to the CFO of the Canadian division, the holder will have a high degree of exposure to senior members of the team, including the division’s COO. You will have the chance to supervise a team of dedicated professionals, as well as to participate in the optimization of controls and the improvement of processes. More precisely, the Financial Accounting Director will have various responsibilities, such as:

FINANCIAL AND ACCOUNTING

  • Oversight of the activities of the accounting department to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Lead and coordinate the audit process, working with internal audit, external auditors, and leadership on general controls and compliance
  • Assure monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external reporting is completed in a timely, accurate manner
  • Enhance and maintain the internal controls system, providing guidance to management control improvement on transactions
  • Optimize financial processes/controls to increase the efficiency of the overall finance function
  • Support financial metrics for measuring company performance and operations
  • Manage all sales tax-related activities within the organization
  • Participate in special projects, as needed
  • Oversee other Financial shared services activities

  • Talent Management
  • Ensure the creation and enhancement of a positive and productive work environment
  • Coach and counsel employees, address issues when they arise, and take appropriate action
  • Training and Development
  • Manage the training and development of the team to maximize their effectiveness/productivity

Qualifications Required

Training

  • Hold a university degree in accounting
  • Hold a Chartered Accounting Designation (CPA)

Professional Experience

  • Have a minimum of 7-10 years of experience relevant to the function
  • Experience in a large organization (An asset)
  • Experience in a multi-site environment

Skills

  • Mastery of the complete accounting cycle
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS
  • SAP experience (An asset)
  • Bilingual, written, and spoken (English and French)

Aptitude

  • Self-starter with a proven track record of developing and executing change
  • Strong in management influence, project management, creative problem solving, and cross-functional team-building skills
  • Passionate, high-energy individual who can function in a complex, metric-driven environment
  • Understanding of economics, technical issues, and ability to perform independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence with the formal presentation of complex material in both small and large group settings
  • Superior analytical skills and business acumen
