The Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy proudly offers more than a dozen teaching programs in a variety of areas of global expertise. We are home to exceptional faculty, experts and researchers from around the globe, and more than 40 academic centres, labs and programs. Our goal is to build a unique, world-renowned research, teaching and public engagement hub that shapes the contemporary field of global affairs from within Canada. Under general direction of the Manager, Administration and Finance and working as a part of the Financial Services team, the Financial Officer provides the financial support to the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.

This is term position that will end on March 2025.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries
  • Forecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgets
  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
  • Preparing financial summary reports
  • Ensuring research sponsor deadlines are met
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and otherapplicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
  • Verifying the accuracy and completeness of information; reconciling accounts
  • Entering salary and/or personnel information in HRIS; Collecting supporting documentation required for payroll and/or HRIS processing; Following established standards when processing transactions

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business and/or accounting or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years financial/accounting experience in an educational/public sector with experience monitoring budget, managing various accounts, administrating purchasing activities and processing payroll.
  • Experience in aspects of accounting including payroll, account reconciliation, and preparation of financial statements
  • Demonstrated experience using and applying general accounting principles and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience completing financial forecasting analysis
  • Experience interpreting and adhering with granting agencies’ funding guidelines and policies
  • Experience monitoring, reconciling and reporting funding accounts for budget
  • Experience with all aspects of the Financial Information System (FIS), HRIS, DIS and RIS modules of AMS
  • Experience preparing financial reports
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • A broad knowledge of the University’s financial guidelines and procedures and accounting/procurement practices
  • Highly-developed computer skills including advanced proficiency with MS Office (Excel,Word, Access, Outlook, SharePoint), in particular FIS, HRIS, RIS and Logistics modules
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong ability to work under pressure, meet multiple deadlines, and cope with a variety of tasks
  • Accuracy with figures and detailed oriented
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Experience with University’s Administrative Management System (FIS, DIS, RIS and HRIS), or other similar systems
