As a Food Service Worker, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact on patient and resident focused health care as a dedicated member of the Nutrition Food Service (NFS) team. NFS is a provincial service that is committed to providing nutritious, healthy, high quality meal service to patients, residents, staff, visitors and the community. This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident and customer experience. Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, they will use strong customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to: Prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages. Assemble trays in the kitchen and/or serve meals in a dining room setting. Provide patient meal delivery and pick up. Order and put away unit supplies. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment. Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. Complete other food service duties as assigned. Work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy. Work under pressure in high stress situations. Communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments. Work as an effective, professional team member. Demonstrate a patient first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies. Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions.
Description:
As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift. Additional Required Qualifications:
As required. Preferred Qualifications:
Customer service experience; Food service experience. Knowledge or experience with operating a computer. Experience in a hospital or long-term care environment. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates and minimizing waste while utilizing “First in- First Out” procedures. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment. Food Safe Certificate or equivalent. WHMIS training.
