Job title: General Academic Tutor
Job description: We are looking for an experienced tutor or teacher to work with small groups of upper elementary and high school students on school assignments, general academic study skills and work habits, from essay writing to mathematics. We believe that a strong foundation through education will set students on the right path to success. We need a like-minded individual to join our team to work with students in person at our office after school.

Responsibilities:
- Contribute to student learning and advancement in school, inspiring a passion for learning at the highest levels.
- Manage individuals or small groups of students in a learning environment; and communicate effectively with students and others as needed
- Familiarity with BC Curriculum and the ability to work with upper elementary and secondary students to meet learning expectations.
- Maintain a growth mindset towards student progress and the student’s personal and academic development.
- Demonstrate a high degree of integrity and agency; hold themselves accountable for learning outcomes and advocate for their students
- Facilitates problem-solving fosters critical thinking skills, and shows a high degree of creative application in the implementation of the curriculum.
- Apply learning activities that follow a coherent sequence, are aligned to appropriate learning goals, and engage students in high-level cognitive activity.
- Invests in the students’ well-being and safety, physically and emotionally.
- Available to work weekdays after 4:00 p.m and/or weekends during the day
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, in English, Science, History, or a related field, preferably from a Canadian, US, or UK university, or a comparable qualification
- An Education degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field of teaching is considered an asset
- Prior teaching and/or tutoring experience is an asset
Your Skills
- Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for students at the respective grade level
- Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals
- Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet expectations efficiently and effectively
- Working familiarity with assistive technologies; internet and email systems; and word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software
- Familiarity with technology and the use of technology in the classroom
- Legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship
