Job description: Keystone Agricultural Producers of Manitoba (KAP) is Manitoba’s general farm policy organization, providing a unified voice for farmers on issues that affect agriculture. They work with governments, industry and stakeholders on overarching issues that affect all farmers and promote agriculture and its contributions to the Manitoba and Canadian economies. To continue this important work, they’re ready to welcome their next General Manager.
Reporting to the President and Board of Directors, the General Manager is a key and important role in the organization. Not only does the GM provide leadership over the operations and staff, but they also debrief the President and the Board on matters affecting the agricultural industry so that appropriate decisions affecting their members can be made.
A key component of this role will be the ability to strategically build and cultivate relationships as the GM will engage with many levels of stakeholders such as government officials and lobby partners.
Position Overview:
- Represent KAP on behalf of President and Board when required in meetings with cabinet ministers and other elected officials, on external committees, or in other important forums.
- Provide operational and people leadership and direction, overseeing Finance, HR, Policy, Communications, Membership and Administration.
- Present industry, operational and financial reporting to the board, planning and conferring with them on important issues and policy discussions.
- Collaborate with policy staff to execute members resolutions and advocacy strategies.
- Draft speeches, content, concepts and ideas for engaging with the media.
- Attend industry events such as related trade shows, seminars, networking events and other public engagements.
Qualifications
- You have completed post-secondary education in Agriculture, Public Administration or a related Business Administration.
- You have experience either reporting to a board, external governing committee or have sat on a board and respect the relationship between the board and the executive team.
- You are well versed in agriculture, public policy and the political environment – you understand the impact policy can make on an industry and as such, you’re informed and aware.
- You are a self-starter who takes initiative – you have the ability to remain calm in times of pressure.
- Relationships have been key to your success. You know how to nurture and cultivate important relationships in order to move towards a common goal.
- You are an exceptional communicator, able to communicate effectively through various mediums and to a variety of audiences.

KAP is the voice of Manitoba farmers and represent over 5,000 farms and 21 commodity groups throughout the province.
Representing members from 12 districts spread across Manitoba, Keystone Agricultural Producers of Manitoba (KAP) is Manitoba’s general farm policy organization, providing a unified voice for farmers on issues that affect agriculture. They work with governments, industry and stakeholders on overarching issues that affect all farmers. KAP also act as spokespersons for Manitoba’s farmers, engaging media and other stakeholders in understanding the issues facing primary producers. They promote agriculture and its contributions to the Manitoba and Canadian economies.
Membership in KAP is available to all Manitoba farmers, be they individuals, corporations, or cooperatives. KAP is a farm policy organization that is member funded and member directed.
