Additional Info: About Open Ears:
Open Ears Festival runs annually the first week of June. We strive to create unique concert experiences and disrupt our audience’s conceptions of what ‘music’ is, or what it can be. We present an eclectic range of music from indie classical to electroacoustic to sound installations. The festival explores the theme of integrating community through the use of unexpected musical settings. By using unusual venues – the central City Hall Square, canoes on the lake of Victoria Park, the basement of an historic hotel – to present an eclectic range of music, from indie classical and electroacoustic to musique actuelle and sound installations, we invigorate the imagination and open doors to new ideas.

We create a visionary mix of local, national and international artists, and our concerts have featured everything from traditional ensembles such as string quartet, orchestra and choir to turntable art, multi-media, anachronism and dance. We disrupt accepted norms, by presenting concerts indoors and out, whether in traditional concert halls, churches or alternative spaces, like abandoned buildings and parkades.
