BC Eco is looking for a General Manager: Chipping & Grinding to provide strategic leadership and administrative support to our chipping and grinding operations throughout British Columbia and Alberta. This is a remote position based in either the West Kootenay or Okanagan regions. The General Manager will work closely with the senior management team to provide the resources necessary to safely and successfully meet the expectations of our clients and team members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all actions incorporate “Sutherland Group Core Values” of Curious and Adaptable, Trustworthy, Humbly Confident, Better Together and Make it Happen while working on behalf of the company.
  • Work with the Senior VP of Operations to acquire all resources necessary to complete operations safely and successfully.
  • Engage with Senior VP of Operations and Sales Manager to support business development activities.
  • Lead KPI scorecard process for Chipping and Grinding and ensure it is in line with company budgets.
  • Monitor unit costing and develop and implement corrective action plans where appropriate.
  • Receive, investigate and resolve customer and team member complaints.
  • Maintain professional/positive relationships with current and prospective customers.
  • Work with customers, supervisors, employees, and senior management to analyze operations for opportunities to improve production and efficiencies. Create plans and processes to implement improvements with direct reports and all teams across the Sutherland Group.
  • Monitor and adjusts staff levels as required by the changing job conditions and workloads.
  • Work with the Operations Manager, Senior VP of Operations, Director of Assets and Maintenance and all employees to establish and implement consistent daily/weekly/monthly maintenance programs.
  • Provide leadership and direction to team members to meet the job performance/production target requirements of the work obtained by the company.
  • Hold managers and supervisors accountable for daily equipment checks in BIS and reporting all required and completed maintenance.
  • Travel to various job sites within BC and Alberta.
  • Perform regular operational and employee performance observations. Ensure required worker assessments and Quarterly Conversations are completed identifying opportunities for training and/or advancement as applicable.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

As a member of the BC Eco team, we expect you to bring the following to the table:

  • Minimum of 10 years of operations experience with a strong knowledge of Forestry related operations.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role as a supervisor and/or manager.
  • Diploma in business, forestry, management or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites within BC and Alberta.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple job sites at once.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with critical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to make decisions.
  • Microsoft Office proficient, with ability to analyze and create documents in MS Excel.
  • Ability to analyze P&L statements.
