General Practitioner in Oncology

BC Cancer – Prince is looking for a family physician to work within the Oncology Department as a General Practitioner in Oncology (GPO). The GPO works collaboratively with the Oncology team in a supportive, interdisciplinary environment. The successful candidate would be primarily involved in supporting patients receiving treatment with chemotherapy or radiation therapy. This is extremely interesting, meaningful work. There is no on-call service or evening work associated with this role. No previous experience in oncology is required. The department will support the successful applicant in developing the requisite expertise for the role, including an 8-week Introductory GPO course, two weeks of which is didactic learning and 6 weeks of preceptorship.

Professionally, BC Cancer Prince George offers a great collaboration with Northern Health, on site with the UBC Northern Medical Program and the University Hospital of Northern BC, with excellent opportunities for teaching. We have an in-house research and clinical trials unit, which is currently conducting national and international level radiation trials and is eager to expand to systemic therapy trials in the near future.

Applicants must be eligible for licensure as a family practitioner in British Columbia, have Canadian certification (FRCP, FRCS or CCFP) at the time of appointment, and should be suitable for appointment to the University of British Columbia. Preferred start date is July 2021.
