Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to support near-term tactical supply chain plans that ensure 100% reliability of supply for Methanex’s customers. The incumbent is accountable to diligently monitor global and regional information, and summarize messages to support operational decisions made in reaction to immediate and potentially disruptive events. This position plays a role in collecting business knowledge so complexities in our globally integrated supply chain are considered in decisions, and assessing impact to the entire supply chain. This position supports strategic planning and analysis by evaluating feasibility of sourcing plans, providing an assessment of risks on future initiatives and supporting purchasing strategy by assessing and communicating risks, needs and opportunities associated to product flows to the regions. Additionally, this position contributes to ad-hoc analysis, reporting, and acts as back-up for the Manager and other team members as required.
Position Responsibilities
Global Planning and Supply Chain Decisions; Tactical Plan focus (70%)
- Supports the preparation of 120-day tactical plan and strategy for global distribution to include all supply sources (Methanex plants, off-takes, contracted purchases, spot purchases) with a view of ensuring 100% reliability of supply and minimizing global logistics costs
- Maintains frequent and effective interaction with key stakeholders (Marketing, Waterfront Shipping, Manufacturing) to ensure timely and high quality information with which to make decisions
- Critically evaluates the combined inputs from multiple sources to identify potential risks or opportunities and determine creative solutions
- Effectively communicates decisions with key stakeholders and leads through influence to ensure buy-in and global collaboration
- Works closely with Global Supply Chain Analyst and Waterfront Shipping to ensure decisions impacting vessel movements are properly reflected in our global decision support tools
- Accountable to provide robust analysis for decisions related to near-term operational issues in collaboration with Regional Planners and Waterfront Shipping and under tight deadlines
- On-going analysis and validation of Tactical Planning Strategy and process, recommending and implementing changes as required
- On-going evaluation of product flow risks, needs and opportunities in relation to purchasing plans
- On-going evaluation of regional information to assess areas that need further exploration to understand risks
Analysis and Reports (25%)
- Additional analysis, as required, for Marketing & Logistics organization, primarily on tactical options and contingency planning to enable tactical initiatives or manage events
- Support of periodic reporting of tactical planning including KPIs
- Provides global input into regional supply issues, seeking optimal solution for Methanex.
- Provides support to strategic analysis by evaluating feasibility of sourcing and other future plans
- Prepares and maintain reports and documents processes to ensure business knowledge both global and regional is available and understood by the Global Supply Chain Team
- Responsible for maintaining record of tactical decision making to support reporting at various level
System Project Support (5%)
- Tests and provides feedback on new IT systems
Position Qualifications
Education and/or Professional Designation
- A university degree, preferably in an associated discipline (i.e. accounting, engineering, business administration, operations)
Experience and Technical Skills/Knowledge
- 5+ years’ relevant experience with international supply chain and logistics or other related technical field considered an asset
- Understanding of distribution process for bulk commodity logistics in ocean vessels
- Ability to identify and deliver value-added cross-functional strategies and processes that deliver competitive advantage in cost, quality of service, people and environment
- Understanding of the dynamics of a global commodity business that influences supply/demand and cost
- Ability to lead through influence in a matrix organization
- Existing knowledge of Methanex business model, value proposition, and culture would be an asset
- Ability to learn and apply insight about internal customers to achieve continuous improvement
- Experience with Demand and Supply Chain Planning software would be an asset
- Strong computer skills in desktop applications (Excel, Word)
