Job description: Your Opportunity:

The Health Care Aide in the Stollery Inpatient Permanent Float pool reports to the Manager Site Capacity and Inpatient Permanent Float Pool for the Stollery Children’s Hospital and will work to the scope of the Health Care Aide as delegated by the unit nursing team. Duties include (but not limited to): direct patient care for grooming, hygiene, feeding, portering, monitoring patients for safety reasons: delivering specimens to labs, ordering supplies, cleaning and maintaining equipment, tidying unit environment. the Health Care Aide may be asked to assist with patient transfers. Physical requirement includes long periods of standing and walking, the ability to reach over the shoulder and lifting. The successful candidate is part of the multidisciplinary team caring for the pediatric population and their family within a Family Centered Care philosophy. He/she must be able to apply this philosophy in practice. The successful candidate will be oriented and expected to work on the inpatient units and be able to work a variety of days, with all shifts being at night. The candidate must be reliable and accountable for all actions. Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification must be recognized by the Heart and Stroke Foundation and must be recertified yearly. Committed to Family Centered Care and a desire to work with children in an acute care environment is required. Good communication and organizational skills are necessary. Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with recent acute care experience. Preference will be given to candidate with previous child care experience and / or education. Flexibility to move between the various units and work with a wide variety of patients, families and staff would be an asset.
