PCU 34 is a 30-bed unit providing care to orthopedic and ortho spine surgery patients. Patients are received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care units, and directly from home and/or medical clinics. We have collaborative nursing care on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health care aides working cohesively within the collaborative model of care. Health Care Aides are expected to participate in documentation of their care. Staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital serves a unique inner city population and we want to do it well. The Surgery Inpatient program maintains the expectation that all employees do so with pride, compassion, and respect.
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:
Position requires candidates to perform moderate to heavy work on a regular basis in an RN/LPN/HCA capacity in order to ensure safe patient care and safety of unit staff. This job is physically demanding, the incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, turning, and mobilizing patients as well as other physical tasks. Graduation from a Health Care Aide Program is required. CPR – HCP level required. Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills required. Demonstrated reliability required. Must be able to document work provided in patient’s chart. Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Basic computer skills are required.
