This exciting opportunity as Health Care Aide (HCA), Float, under supervision and direction of the RN, RPN, LPN (Licensed Healthcare Professional), covers planned and unplanned staff absences, and provides direct care to clients in their homes in both the community and lodge setting. Responsibilities of the HCA Float include: providing personal care and assisting with activities of daily living as outlined in the care plan (including but not limited to personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, grooming, transferring and mobilizing); providing respite care to relieve family caregivers (including but not limited to companionship, recreational activities, and supervision); and, performing health care duties as authorized on the client’s plan of care including simple dressings, medication assistance, catheter care, ostomy care, and exercises for range of movement and strengthening. You may be required to provide housekeeping services that are essential to the Client’s Activities of Daily Living in their immediate living space to increase the prospects for maintaining the client in their Home/Community. This position may be required to work a variety of shifts and shift patterns and service the clients of Airdrie and Didsbury home care and includes clients in rural areas. As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:
The candidate must have Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) from Heart and Stroke Foundation within the last 12 months. In addition, the candidate must be effective in verbal and written English, have well developed time management skills, demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors and team members. This candidate must demonstrate the ability to work as a member of a team (including requesting and accepting direction as required). You will be required to operate a laptop computer and mobile phone, and for manual handling (lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing and pulling) as a regular part of the job. For example: lifting of approximately 30 pounds in and out of a vehicle on a regular basis and carrying this weight up and down stairs throughout the day is common within this job. Learning resources and training are provided to safely perform work. This role requires flexibility, adaptability and rural/remote travel; possession of a valid drivers’ license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work related purposes. Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be enrolled with the HCA Directory, have a Medication Assistance Certificate or prior experience in Medication Assistance and have experience in the health care field working with vulnerable populations across the life span in a community base setting.
