Job title: Heritage Interpreter
Job description: The Kilby Historic Site & Archives has a 15 week summer student employment opportunity which will run from November 1 to February 15, 2021.
Duties include:
· Deliver a variety of interpretive programs including tours, demonstrations, period performances, and education activities to the general public, school groups, and special interest groups.
· Initiate conversation with visitors
· Demonstrate excellent customer service skills at all times; being an ambassador for tourism in BC
· Safeguard the collection of artifacts and demonstrates care for the interiors of buildings in accordance with the BC Museum Standards and Best Practices guidelines.
· Wear and maintain period costume at all times while on Site.
· Maintain order and cleanliness of museum and report any problems to the Curator
· Assist with school programming & provide tour groups with history of 1920s agriculture and farming practices in rural British Columbia
· Attend to all site opening and closing routines; and security of museum artefacts.
· Assist in museum traffic, sanitization and added protocols due to the coronavirus
· Participate in Special Event activities including Wedding re-enactments, Kite making
Requirements include:
· Under the Guidelines of this program to be eligible: youth must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2.
· You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
· You must be between 15 & 30 years of age at the start of employment
· Have registered as a full-time* student in the semester preceding the job (*as defined by their educational institution)
· Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester immediately following the job
· Not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed; and be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory
· Outgoing personality with good public speaking skills. In addition, you should ideally have completed a year of study in history, education, theater, or museum studies or a related program at a recognized university.
· Preference may be given to those with previous work or volunteer experience in a museum.
· Theatre and working with children an asset.
· Ability to work co-operatively, as part of a team.
· Ability to work 35 hours a week including weekends.
· Driver’s license not required but must possess a reliable means of transportation to/from work
· Must be able to pass a criminal record check.
This position offers 7 hr day at an hourly rate of $15.80
Will work around school schedule.
