Job description: Computing and Communications Services (CCS) is the central IT department at the University of Guelph, providing core IT services and technology solutions to the U of G community. Reporting to the Manager, Business Operations and Human Resources the Human Resource and Finance Coordinator is a key member of the Business Operations unit responsible for the overall HR and operational needs of the CCS department. The specific responsibilities for the Human Resource and Finance Coordinator include supporting the overall recruitment coordination and processing of IT staff and student hiring, payroll processing, maintaining confidential personnel records, and supporting the financial and operational needs of the Business Operations unit. These functions are critical to the day-to-day department requirements which impact the overall effectiveness and efficiency of 11 Directors/Managers, 100 staff and approximately 30 student staff.

This position is responsible for finding creative solutions for improving processes, HR related strategic thinking and planning and will oversee the effective and efficient operations of the Business Operations unit.

Requirements of the position include:

  • Completion of a 2-year diploma in Human Resources or Administration, or a related field along with a minimum of 3 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in an office environment performing human resource and financial duties where a wide variety of policies and procedures are required.
  • Must have exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail in handling a high volume of transaction related to hiring, payroll and financial related activities, with accuracy, completeness and respect to privacy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate financial information and procedures as well as sensitive and confidential human resource information.
  • Proven independent judgment for decision-making, task prioritization, and time management while dealing with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Existing knowledge of human resources and financial policies and procedures would be considered an asset.
