The Business & Technology Program in U of C Continuing Education is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term ICT Program Consultant for approximately 2 years.

The University of Calgary Continuing Education (UCCE) houses one of Canada’s largest and most successful continuing education departments. It is a multi-disciplinary unit, offering diploma, certificate and non-degree programs using on-site and online technologies for course delivery.

In support of the University of Calgary’s core principles and financial objectives, Continuing Education is an academic unit with a mandate to respond to the needs of the community through the design, development and delivery of lifelong learning opportunities.

Continuing Education consists of a number of distinct programming teams with a central service team, serving almost 20,000 students annually. It is expected to fund, through revenue generation, the majority of its operational costs while contributing financially to the University. The success of University of Calgary Continuing Education in meeting its business target in a competitive environment is dependent upon providing highly effective student services and quality programs.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Domestic Programs, the incumbent will, in response to identified needs from individuals and groups, plan, manage, and promote revenue-producing high quality non-credit and certificate courses and programs for adults, professional associations, and the corporate community.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assess existing programs and partnerships to ensure a robust portfolio of offerings that meet student and industry requirements.
  • Ensures the development, implementation and management of financially viable, high quality adult learning opportunities.
  • Establish an academic program plan to meet annual projected registrations and budget requirements.
  • Oversee individual course and/or program design to ensure adherence to sound adult and continuing education principles and practices and curriculum relevancy.
  • Ensure the provision of quality educational experiences and customer value.
  • Develop and maintain professional association relationships
  • Explains difficult or sensitive information and works to build consensus
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining productive working relationships with other staff groups
  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions
  • Exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information
  • Requires significant problem solving expertise and analytical thinking
  • Provides strategic leadership in the ICT area to support student and industry needs and is aligned with the direction of the University
  • Lead projects with manageable risks and resource requirements
  • Ensure business process compliance with Continuing Education and UC standards and policies.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual, program-area plans, and provide input, as requested to other program-area and unit-wide plans.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, and/or Adult Education is preferred, or a combination of education and relevant work experience in the Information Technology field.
  • Demonstrated strong Project Management experience. Designation (PMP) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current trends, industry requirements and educational practices in the ICT subject area. Ability to translate labour market requirements and emerging trends in technology into programming opportunities within the ICT portfolio. Experience with Labour Market Aggregators such as Burning Glass is an asset.
  • 8-10 years related experience in planning, development, marketing and delivery of new programming initiatives to adults in mixed delivery formats (e.g. face to face and online).
  • Evidenced ability to maintain current knowledge of the constantly changing technology environment and to competently assess, review and direct updates to programs and curricula as new software versions are released, and as new methodologies become mainstream best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully negotiating and implementing third party agreements to enhance current programming offering.
  • Ability to develop, monitor and analyze program budgets, financial and enrollment data.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, flexibility, self-motivation, innovativeness and initiative.
  • Capability to successfully manage competing priorities with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to be a collaborative team member and interface with multiple organizational levels, external parties and University faculties. Ability to apply leadership skills. Providing coaching and mentoring to staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with relevant Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with Tableau is an asset.
  • Adequate knowledge of the existing and potential programming area(s) to provide programming direction. These include:
