Job Summary
The Application Specialist will:
- Provide ongoing support for the Meditech application and modules
- Provide implementation, workflow and technical, and systems troubleshooting support for Meditech.
- Participate in customizing, testing and implementation of applications, upgrades and enhancements to the Meditech application and other health information systems supported by the ICT Department.
- Use expertise from patient registration, bed allocation and clinical computer applications, while understanding of the hospital organizational structure to provide support as it relates to the delivery of patient-centred care across the hospital
- Provide support for other clinical software applications e.g. 3rd party ministry applications that support patient flow, nursing documentation, surgical management
Primary Responsibilities
Computer Component/Planning/Troubleshooting
- Build and maintains dictionaries within available administrative tools.
- Evaluates new technology related to patient location functions and recommends acquisition of such technology when appropriate.
- Overseeing installation of upgrades, stringent application testing, and system maintenance.
- Troubleshooting Meditech applications and any related problems/issues
- Facilitating optimal utilization of all products to generate reports
- Ensures effective downtime procedures are in place.
- Participation in evaluation of new computer systems for patient location automation
- Retrieves and analyzes computer generated information for environmental services and hospital senior administrators
- Software and some hardware support for Meditech devices and printers
- Responsible for implementation, validation, documentation, training, troubleshooting and support for the Meditech software/automation applications
- Ensures proper configuration of equipment
- Assign privileges to personnel as per workflow needs
- Rotational On-Call to provide 24/7 support to the hospitals
- Travel to Stevenson Memorial Hospital required on a rotational basis
Education/Leadership/Administrative
- Provide training/education to hospital staff/employees/physicians on appropriate use of the Meditech application and other 3rd party clinical applications.
- Educate staff about new procedures or functions in clinical systems
- Coordinates installation and training of newly purchased automation and technology.
- Evaluates and coordinates correction of malfunctioning technology and software during regular hours and “on call” after hours.
- Provides leadership and guidance for patient location applications
- Develops implements and maintains policies and procedures for computer systems, automation and other technology supported by the IT Department
- Pulls together documentation necessary – either for training/education, system support, end user documentation etc.
- Provides support as the IT resource expert in MEDITECH and works closely with other team IT members on integration issues between systems.
- Develops and maintains application screens and ensures that the program specific screens support the patient populations and caregivers of the program/cluster
- Provides data to other hospital departments, or ensure interfaces/feeds provide data as required/requested.
- Develop reports generated from the clinical applications for stakeholder to support them in decision making and reporting requirements. (e.g. generates financial reports, workload statistics, clinical reports and other required summaries at month end, year end or as needed)
- Participates in IT meetings and contributes solutions, troubleshooting experiences and collaborates with IT team members.
- Promotes constant communication through contributing educational / support information for monthly end user news letter and one on one meeting with users.

- Must be willing to work long hours at critical periods in the project which includes evenings and night shift during go live of applications to support end users.
- For any system downtime/updates/upgrades, the work may be need to be done off-hours during the week or on weekends – this will require flex schedules.

Qualifications
- Minimum two years of hospital experience working with a major HIS like MEDITECH, EPIC, CERNER is preferred
- Experience with registration, scheduling in a hospital setting preffered
- Complex SQL report queries and expert knowledge of Crystal Report is desirable
- Degree or Diploma in a health related discipline, Information systems, computer science is required.
- Professional designation such as nursing, allied health, pharmacy etc. is preferred
