Position Title: IT Infrastructure Administrator
Location: Ottawa, Canada
Position Summary:
The IT Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related data center infrastructure. This individual will also work alongside senior Network Team members to maintain and configure network devices, provide logistical support, and assist with testing, assessment, diagnosis and resolution of network service outages and incidents. This individual may participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation in support of business objectives. This individual will also ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational and security policies.
Key Activities:
- Manages, monitors, and supports systems hardware, software, and applications.
- Installs and builds server, storage, application, and related infrastructure.
- Performs diagnostics of network issues.
- Configures network devices for new deployments and/or configures replacement network devices from backup configuration files per direction of senior Network Team members
- Researches, recommends, and implements new solutions in support of project and business requirements.
- Coordinates Information Security access and ensures that appropriate security policies and processes are in-place, operate effectively and are followed.
- Coordinates, supports, and integrates systems with cloud and hosted services.
- Participates in acquisition process for systems related products and services.
- Provides expert technical advice, guidance and support to internal customers and other members of the IT team.
- Coordinates the work of contractors, project teams, and technical support teams.
- Provides second level systems support including emergency off hours and weekend support.
Experience and Skills:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a system administration role, including experience working in a network administration role, for a medium to large enterprise with complex technology environments.
Required skills include Windows Active Directory administration, Windows server maintenance and patching, VMware administration including virtual desktop technologies, administering common network services such as DNS, DHCP, and NTP, integration with cloud and hosted services, and backup system administration.
Desired skills include working knowledge of networking and cabling infrastructure, Linux, and enterprise data storage.
Required non-technical skills include a strong customer focus and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with all levels of the Ribbon organization and vendor/partner organizations. The candidate must also be disciplined and organized, be able to multi-task in a very active and dynamic environment and possess the ability to mentor more junior members of the team.
