Purpose of Role:
This is a permanent, full-time position with Weir Marine Engineering in Montreal (LaSalle), QC. The nature of the position is that it requires significant on-site presence, but some telework is possible if desired. In this position, reporting to the Lab Manager, and working alongside another Lab Administration & Support resource and a Lab Coordinator, you will support, maintain and administer IT equipment and associated lab infrastructure for complex IT test environments. The position involves working in an office, server rooms and lab environments, with frequent interaction with other members of the Naval IT Infrastructure and Communications Group (30+ IT specialists) who employ the test environments as part of projects for the Royal Canadian Navy.
This permanent position will appeal to a keen, developing IT administrator with a strong technical base of knowledge who is looking to grow and expand their skills and experience.
Only Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years in Canada will be considered for this position. It is absolutely necessary as part of the requirements to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.

Key Responsibilities:

Service desk duties – logging and responding to incidents, service requests and requests for change;
Technical administration duties;
Hardware repairs and warranty repair coordination;
IT equipment racking, staging, cabling and wiring;
Coordination of the transport/shipment of IT equipment;
Developing maintenance and process procedures related to the operations of the lab;
Providing assistance to more senior group members;
Preventative maintenance of IT equipment, software and applications;
IT asset management, inventory management and audits, including the upkeep of an asset database;
Creating and maintaining physical and logical diagrams of lab information systems;
Creating and maintaining rack layouts and cable run reference documents; and
General administrative duties with the daily operations of the lab.
Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for candidates that have the ability to perform the objectives above.
Three to five years of relevant IT experience. IT certifications (e.g. A+, Network+, Internet+, CCNA, etc.) would be highly desirable;
Strong English written and oral communication abilities;
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, able to develop a good rapport with a variety of different types of people;
Fast learner, proactive, responsive, self-driven, excellent organizational skills, takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail, and can work autonomously; and
Strong trouble-shooting and fault-finding skills (root cause analysis).
Knowledge of Windows Server (2012R2, 2016 and 2019) operating systems, including Active Directory and DNS; Windows 7/10 x64 desktop operating system; VMware ESXi; networking and VPN principles;
Knowledge of IT server, storage and networking equipment and hardware (HP, Dell, Cisco, Riverbed, Palo Alto, Aruba, EMC) from an installation and maintenance perspective (BIOS configuration, RAID setup, firmware upgrades, operating system installation, CPU and memory upgrades, etc.);
Knowledge of Nagios, Linux;
Knowledge of structured cabling technologies (fibre optic cabling, termination and modes, CAT5/6/7, RS232, EIA530, etc.);
Knowledge of UPS and power systems; and
Knowledge of scripting and automation languages such as PowerShell, BASH, Ansible and others.
