Job Description:

As Sun Life’s Group and CRM Application Services (GnC AS) matrix IT organization moves along our Digital Enterprise journey we are looking for a versatile candidate who is able to manage initiatives following waterfall, agile or hybrid methodology.

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the team follows the principles and processes of the applicable methodology.

The responsibilities of this role include: clearing obstacles, establishing an environment where the team can be effective, addressing team dynamics, ensuring a good relationship between the team and stakeholders, risk escalation and project reporting

What will do you?

Manage all phases of large or several medium, high risk IT application projects from initiation to closure while leveraging best practice standards and processes set out by Sun Life’s PMOs and other industry organizations, including PMI.

Ensure the team embraces the agile principles, values and framework; coach the development team and help lead and ensure the “agile mindset” is fully adopted and understood

Provide clear direction and motivation to agile/project team

Manage stakeholder relationships to ensure project delivery expectations are specified and successfully met.

Develop and manage detailed Kanban boards, work plans, project schedules, estimates and resource plans in conjunction with project team members and other involved business and IT teams

Monitor and report on initiatives highlighting issues and risks appropriately. As necessary, coordinate the development, discussion, and approval of corrective action and/or contingency plans.

Define and manage project risks and issues ensuring appropriate strategies and plans are in place to mitigate or handle effectively. Proactively escalate risks and issues as appropriate.

Ensure effective and timely communication occurs within the project team and between the project team and their stakeholders

Ensure that appropriate processes, tools and techniques are available and used by the project team

Ensure that project activities and deliverables adhere to internal quality standards

What do you need to succeed?

Bilingual (English-French)

University degree, college diploma or appropriate experience in lieu of

PMP/CSM Certification

Project management experience in the insurance industry or finance industry (asset)

3+ years of experience in agile delivery; 5+ years of experience in project management

Strong negotiation skills and willingness to confront and be confronted

An effective communicator at all levels, in both structured and non-hierarchical, informal structures

Politically savvy and sensitivity to cultural diversity

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
