To support our growth, Swyftx is searching for a Legal Counsel that is passionate about delivering innovative, trusted and world-class legal services. Please note that there is opportunity for this role to be either part-time or full-time.

About the opportunity

In this role you will be responsible for supporting strategic projects and commercial undertakings within both emerging and mature financial technology-driven offerings, counselling business and product development teams on a wide range of matters and working with the business to ensure that relevant legal and regulatory requirements and risks are understood and managed.

What you’ll do

  • Apply effective risk management techniques and offering proactive advice on current and potential legal and regulatory issues
  • Providing guidance on compliance with global privacy and data security laws, regulations, industry standards, and best practices
  • Developing and monitoring internal governance standards and policies
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams to identify, assess, and manage legal risk across a wide range of business initiatives
  • Communicating and negotiating with external parties (regulators, external counsel, counterparties, etc.), creating relations of trust
  • Supporting a program of work that is responsive and proactive in consideration of the evolving regulatory regime within the cryptocurrency and fintech industries
  • Providing training on legal issues that are relevant to the business

About you

  • Australian qualifications with experience working in a top or mid-tier law firm
  • Experience working in-house, preferably at a multi-national or in a finance or technology business
  • Solid drafting and negotiation experience
  • Understanding of legal issues relevant to technology businesses such as intellectual property, privacy, and competition & consumer law
  • Experience advising on regulations and working with regulators, within a financial services business
  • Able to apply rigorous process and logic to solve difficult problems and find effective solutions
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders at once, and follow through and meet deadlines
