Role Summary

MASSIV Automated Systems, an advanced technology based division of Magna International Inc., specializes in the design and build of automated / robotic assembly lines for the automotive industry. Our areas of expertise include hemming (robotic and table top), laser welding, and assembly line welding. Our customers include other divisions within Magna and the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) such as General Motors, Chrysler and Ford.
We are a true global supplier to the automotive industry! Our assembly lines provide a diverse range of automotive products such as doors, hoods, liftgates and underbody parts to customers in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Asia and Europe.

The Licensed Forklift Operator/General Helper (Mechanical) will be responsible to moves/relocates/loads/unloads parts either by manual operation or by forklift (primarily) as required, to avoid production downtime and will perform a variety of other tasks on the shop floor and machine shop, assisting toolmakers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Moves/relocates/loads/unloads parts either by manual operation or by forklift (primarily) as required, to avoid production downtime.
  • Operates heavy equipment (forklift) in a manufacturing environment in a manner that does not endanger themselves or any other workers
  • Ensure pre-shift inspections are filled out daily on all machinery/equipment (ie. Forklifts)
  • Separate and/or break down scrap materials / waste products and place in appropriate hoppers (i.e. cardboard, skids, blanks, steel shavings, other non-recycle, etc.).
  • Dump hoppers into designated recycle/waste bins and ensure that overloading does not occur.
  • Assist toolmakers and machine fitters
  • Operate various machines, tools and equipment
  • Assist with drilling, sawing, painting etc.
  • Communicate necessary information to Assistant Supervisor and co-workers from shift to shift
  • Perform assigned tasks in a safe manner and know how to properly lock out all energy sources, including stored energy
  • Consult your Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor if you are not 100% sure of how to perform tasks in a safe manner
  • Follow all safety rules, standards and procedures at all times in all areas
  • Know what types of Personal Protective Equipment are required for the jobs in your area and always use them properly
  • Ensure that your work area is kept clean, tidy and organized at all times to prevent accidents and produce good quality products
  • Report all unusual circumstances and actively participate in and support Continuous Improvements
  • Follow all ISO Standard Operating Procedures to ensure world class quality products are supplied to our customers
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent required
  • Previous tooling/machine shop experience an asset
  • Basic knowledge of tooling, as well as blueprint reading and mathematical skills
  • Understanding of automated assembly equipment
  • Good communication skills
  • Must have own tools
  • Ability to work as a team member and individually
  • Crane and Forklift License an asset
