Job description: Your Opportunity:
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing hemodialysis treatments to patients with renal failure at the Satellite Dialysis Unit located at the West Edmonton Kidney Care, a University of Alberta Hospital Community Facility (10560 Mayfield Road, Edmonton, AB). As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The LPN provides patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations. The LPN will practice within the guidelines and philosophy of the Alberta Kidney Care – North (AKC-N) program. Please Note: Candidates who are chosen for an interview will be contacted by email. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years Adult Acute Medicine/Surgery experience required. Basic computer skills are required. Demonstrate ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workload. Demonstrate initiative, accountability, decision making, interpersonal and communication skills. Physical Assessment, IV Therapy and Medication Administration course. Successful candidate must be able to lift 40 lbs. (18kg). Orientation will be provided for applicants without hemodialysis experience. Please note: Must be available to take Hemodialysis orientation in Edmonton or Red Deer and have access to a computer for the online portion of the education. Orientation will take 6 weeks: 4 weeks on unit training and 2 weeks of buddy shifts (or equivalent hours). A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to buddy shifts which are assigned by the hiring manager. Advanced Practice Standards 3-10 & 16-17 required. These can be found in the Competency Profile for Licensed Practical Nurses – 5th Edition on the CLPNA website. Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants with current hemodialysis experience. Preference will be given to applicants with current Connect Care experience.
