Midland Transport is currently seeking a full-time Pricing Analyst reporting to the regional supervisor in Montreal, QC.

The primary role of the Pricing Analyst

is to use market and carrier knowledge and tools available in the industry to source, analyze and execute pricing strategies and tactics to support new, existing and potential business opportunities. This role performs detailed pricing and financial analysis of carrier dry, reefer and specialized equipment rates obtained from existing and new carriers. The incumbent ensures capacity commitments and provides competitive pricing to support RFP’s and other pricing initiatives.

Key Accountabilities:

Receive, review and analyze all incoming rates and RFP requests for on-time submission.

Automate reports and build pricing models on a regular basis

Source competitive rates based on equipment specifications, customer needs, and service expectations using existing and new carriers.

Consult with operations team to ensure pricing reflects current carrier/lane mix, capacity and long term commitments using market data & rate history.

Develop new and amend current rate structures within defined corporate strategies (approved P&L’s, confirmed accessorial/fuel programs)

Provide accurate and timely responses to internal teams for rate requests

Manage the rate inquiry mailbox to ensure all rate requests are quickly and properly actioned.

Provide competitive spot rates with margin and/or provide alternate solutions if needed.

Work with Intermodal team to provide alternate highway solutions for existing and potential opportunities as identified.

Work closely with Logistics/Brokerage operations team to develop carrier routing guides & detailed margin analysis based on awarded business.

Keep abreast of carrier industry trends, issues and marketable costs & recommend rate adjustments as applicable.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with carriers to secure competitive pricing.

Other duties and assignments as required

Knowledge and Skills Required:

College Diploma / University Degree in Business, Logistics or International Trade is an asset

Minimum 2 years’ rates/operations experience in the transportation/ logistics industry with exposure to a broad cross-section of rates, carriers and markets

Knowledge of fuel programs (i.e., FCA, DOT, etc.) and exposure to all-in pricing to obtain base rates plus fuel is an asset

Strong experience negotiating with North American carriers in the industry including cross border and domestic LTL/TL (all modes)

Strong knowledge of North American geography

Experience in building pricing models & automating reports are strong assets

Experience with RFP and RFQ submission & contract terms/conditions

Strong communication skills with the ability to work with multiple internal stakeholders

Technical Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office with intermediate to advanced use of Excel

Working knowledge of transportation management software (i.e. Mercury Gate, PC Miler)

Working knowledge of load boards (LoadLink, DAT, Internet Truck Stop)

Business Strategy Skills:

Analytical, detail-oriented, and highly accurate

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and function under pressure and meet time constraints

Strong negotiating skills

Dedicated commitment to providing superior, timely service to both external customers and carriers while meeting the needs of the internal division

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal form

Good at building relationships

Highly organized with the ability to multi-task
