​ Background:

​ The Canadian IT Finance team is responsible providing financial advice to all areas of Canadian IT including the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the CIO Leadership team, delivering accurate and comprehensive financial data and reports on expenses/expense performance, maintaining expense policy and accounting systems as well as building and maintaining a strong internal control environment to support risk management and the attainment of business objectives.Manulife’s global technology function has $1.8bn of annual direct operating spend in Information technology, infrastructure and related initiatives. The IT expense base is spread across 5 segments (Asia, Canada, Corporate, US, and Global Wealth and Asset Management), multiple business lines, multiple shared service centers and numerous product lines globally. The expense base is complex and spans over 12 000 FTEs, 1500+ applications and 500+ vendors.​Key responsibilities:
The Manager, Canadian Information Technology Finance is a key role on the IT Finance team, responsible for supporting consolidated FP&A for the IT Function within Canada. The core accountabilities are:1) Consolidated reporting: This role will support the production of consolidated financial reports and analysis for the Canadian IT function including the monthly operating report (MOR). This includes closed loop reporting on progress against targets, and overall success of the program in driving expense and FTE savings.2) Financial Planning & Forecasting: This role will be responsible for supporting the annual financial planning process and monthly forecasting for the IT function including project management and coordination, analysis and messaging for consolidated results, and developing guidance and ensuring consistency of approach and tools across the function.
3) Analysis: Perform key financial analysis for the Canadian CIO, Segment CIOs, CFOs, and GMs on an ongoing basis. While involving many of the above items (budgeting, reporting, CostFit, etc.) it also entails producing in-depth analyses/forecasting/recommendations for targeted expense items, cost benefit analyses, fixed/variable costing, vendor analyses, offshoring assessments, and staffing models.
4) Support the IT Strategy team including financial analysis and advice for strategic initiatives, analysis and management/board reporting. It will also support Business Architecture for financial analysis of architecture optimization opportunities.
5) Transformation – Work to continuously improve processes to gain efficiency in production, standardize and enhance quality of information. Support implementation of the Expense Finance in Transformation (ExFit) program for the IT Finance team. Provide key input on direction of the ExFit program on point of arrival for IT Finance and impacts for IT finance team.
This role will require fostering strong relationships across the Canadian IT Finance team and will be a key point of contact for the Expense Shared Service team and functional partners in Strategy.​Knowledge, Skills, Competencies:

  • Financial planning & analysis experience.
  • Knowledge of sound business practices and controls, and accounting/audit principles.
  • Preference for individuals with knowledge of IT function, capitalization and project accounting and reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts and results in a clear, concise, easy to understand manner
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Financial modeling skills
  • Accounting and systems knowledge [IFRS, SmartView and PowerBI preferred]
  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a demanding and result-oriented environment
  • Strong project management skills
  • Team player, collaborative, self-starter, well-organized, innovative, and high level of initiative
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA) preferred with 5+ years of related experience
