Job description: Who We Are

The Financial Services group is responsible for the external financial reporting function. External reporting includes the year-end financial statements, quarterly provincial reporting, tax returns and the yearly report to CAUBO. In addition, the Financial Services group supports and maintains the FAST reporting system which provides the internal reporting for SFU. Finally, we are also responsible for endowment and specific purpose, banking and capital accounting at SFU. We as a team strive to provide an exceptional level of customer service to all stakeholders through finshelp, training courses and continuous improvement to our FAST reporting system.

About the Role

The Manager, Financial Reporting oversees SFU’s financial reporting function and directs the preparation of internal and external reports including the university’s Annual Financial Report. The role leads a team of professional and support staff that is responsible for preparing and disseminating SFU’s financial reports. The Manager, Financial Reporting develops and administers financial policies and works with operating units across the university to ensure the SFU’s financial statements comply with accounting standards mandated by the provincial government. The Manager, Financial Reporting monitors the university’s financial reporting information systems and recommends and implements enhancements to those systems.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in accounting, finance or business, with a professional accounting designation (CPA), with ten years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience and five years of supervisory experience, preferably having led a shared services function in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

The key qualifications include:

  • Excellent knowledge of financial information systems, including their design, and strategies for development and implementing enhancements.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial analysis and reporting, and accounting controls, policies and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills is a must, along with a proven record of establishing effective, collaborative working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
