Job description: Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Manager of IT will be responsible for overseeing and supervising the operations and support of the Information Technology department and associated technology resources and services. As well, this position will be highly involved in large projects from inception to completion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general direction of and in consultation with, the Director of Information Technology is directly responsible for the following activities:

  • Supervise staff, recommend professional development and training opportunities through programs, courses and seminars to keep Information Management Services abreast of technology changes, industry standards and new innovations
  • Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology, plans, organizes, coordinates and controls the functions, systems, processes and procedures of the IT Department and its staff, with the objective of achieving an efficient, effective and economical operation
  • Designs and implements departmental services, policies and procedures in accordance with ITIL or other industry standard frameworks
  • Maintains the established levels of systems and network security for all information systems and technologies to prevent any unauthorized access to data or information within the District
  • Works directly with the Director of Information Technology and Manager of Security and Compliance to establish a district security framework, including implementing, monitoring and reporting
  • Maintains departmental services and service levels; ensures appropriate documentation is developed and maintained to ensure consistent and continuous operations of information systems; acts as a technical advisor on information systems-related matters
  • Maintains responsibility for district queries regarding operational issues (e.g. networks, hardware, software, wireless) and directs and coordinates the resolution; ensures that all work performed is in accordance with district policies, procedures and standards
  • Reviews, evaluates, and recommends improvement of existing information system technologies, as well as evaluating compatibility, effectiveness and impact of potential new systems or upgrades
  • Assists the Director of Information Technology in the scheduling and status of projects and ensures that the project and department goals and objectives are being met and the expected levels of quality are being achieved
  • Maintains successful relationships with external vendors and service providers to implement projects and new technology successfully
  • Develops and maintains project plans for multiple ongoing projects simultaneously
  • Reviews technology training applications and systems for the potential benefit to the District and implement either in-house or contracted services to meet the needs of the district staff
  • Maintains and supports a departmental culture of continuous improvement, service orientation and process-based methodologies
  • Participate in the recruitment, discipline and formal performance evaluations of staff as required
  • Assist in preparing and implementing new and amended policies and procedures; maintain a working knowledge of policies, procedures, regulations and codes related to the position; maintain a working knowledge of operational/personnel policies, procedures and regulations of the district
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and training to employees as needed
  • Perform all related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Information Technology
  • Create effective working relationships with district staff from all departments within the district

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a Degree or 2-year Diploma in the Information Management field
  • Current industry certification in at least one of the following: Information Technology, Project Management, IT Security, COBIT5, ITIL
  • Minimum 5 years Information Management Experience
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory or management experience
  • Successful completion of a supervisory or management skills credit course
  • Valid class 5 British Columbia driver’s license
  • Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, developing goals, and identifying measurable objectives
  • Advanced knowledge working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS and Worksafe BC Occupational health and safety regulations and the demonstrated ability to work in a manner that recognizes personal safety and the safety of others
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with all internal and external contacts
  • Ability to use tact and discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Positive interpersonal and leadership skills, and the ability to develop teams and foster an environment which promotes teamwork
  • Ability to explain complex or simple instructions or information clearly to others
  • Ability to positively resolve conflict situations
  • Understanding and awareness of cultural diversity
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and to provide service and relationship to the public and School District in a professional, respectful, positive and courteous manner
