While WorkSafeBC started their Cloud and DevOps journey in 2017, this role must continue to promote and implement opportunities for automation, predictive capabilities and other new opportunities as they emerge, while ensuring security is foundational and operational costs are managed. In this role, you will be responsible for business application development and operational stability of the province-wide 24×7 business applications. This role is a significant contributor to the success of Innovation and Technology department and, as such, will have continued leadership development opportunities.

Where you’ll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.
In this role, you’ll work primarily from your B.C. home and several times a month in our Richmond, BC office.
What you’ll do
- Possesses keen attention to detail, ensuring project accuracy and consistency, combined with hands-on expertise in steering projects to timely and successful completion.
- Support the Director, Enterprise DevOps in developing organizational strategic goals, priorities and roadmaps based on both industry maturation, WorkSafeBC strategic objectives and Innovation & Technology progression.
- Collaborate with I&T leadership to develop the execution plans and implementation approach. Sponsor and lead the execution of innovations, research and best practices, as assigned, managing change, communication and risk.
- Work with the Director, Enterprise DevOps to inspire teams to innovate, improve and prepare for the future.
- Drive the evolution of project to product, shifting towards stakeholder centricity and lean portfolio management practices by guiding portfolio enabling teams and delivery team leadership.
- Build and maintain relationships with our business partners (Product Managers, Product Owners, and other stakeholders) to ensure business priorities, technical stability and business concerns are understood and addressed.
- Collaborate with managers within the Innovation and Technology division to ensure preparation of upcoming needs, providing the ability to deliver efficiently and effectively through the support of architecture, reuse and automation.
- Demonstrate problem solving through problem/risk identification and mitigation with data to support decision-making.
- Working with the Platform Observability & Monitoring team, the incumbent will ensure consistency of Service Reliability Engineering (SRE) processes concerning the reliability, availability, and performance of the systems and applications.
- Ensure application operations run smoothly, ensuring proper on-call standards support the service expectations of I&T leadership and the stakeholders. Monitor and oversee any escalations related to incidents. Determine actions to avoid future issues of the same nature.
- Assist in budget preparation, monitor forecasts and spending, including monitor Azure spend for applications for which you are responsible.
- Oversee special projects or initiatives that may not neatly fit within the domain of any single area within EDO Delivery.
- Together with People Development Managers, mentor, coach, and provide feedback to staff. Support the director in hiring or organizational restructuring.
- Represent or stand in for the Director, Enterprise DevOps when required.

- Participate as a member of the management team of the Division in business planning activities and provide input into changes and initiatives. Work closely with other Divisional and/or WorkSafeBC managers in planning, program development or operational activities.
- Manage and direct assigned staff in maintaining high levels of service and in achieving Divisional priorities and objectives. Hire, orient, evaluate, discipline, and terminate staff as required. Assign work, set performance goals and provide feedback, coaching and developmental planning to support and motivate staff in meeting expectations.
- Ensure that WorkSafeBC and Divisional policies, procedures and standards are appropriately implemented within assigned area. Provides advice, guidance and direction to assigned staff and others on plans, processes and operational matters relating to areas of responsibility.
- Manage the financial resources within the allocated budget. Plan, develop and administer annual operating budget for the assigned area. Monitor ongoing financial reporting, investigate variances, and take corrective action as required.
Your background and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering or Computer Science.
- A minimum of 5 years of directly related management experience.
- A minimum of 5 years working in an Agile and DevOps environment.
- Certifications in Azure, Agile, DevOps and SAFe are assets.
