Job Description

The Manager, Market Strategy and Development will help identify opportunities and define priorities to drive business growth in the Commercial segment. The Manager will be responsible for gathering and analyzing category, competitive, customer and company intelligence to enable senior executive decision-making. This role is critical in continually advancing Canada Post’s leadership position by delivering data driven insights, understanding the needs of buyers and decision makers and transferring that knowledge to internal audiences.

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Market Strategy and Development:

  • Works with internal and external sources to gather and evaluate customer, competitor market and company performance information to identify market development opportunities and threats; defines requirements and pursues research and information gathering to determine market potential.
  • Gathers and analyzes intelligence to enable executive or team decision-making. Analyzes financial, internal marketing and industry data; assesses implications and recommends strategies and courses of action.
  • Communicates findings, insights and recommendations to internal clients and stakeholders across the Corporation.
  • Develops strategic and innovative approaches and programs to strengthen CPC position in defined target markets and/or to develop our presence in new markets

Job Responsibilities (continued)

  • As part of the Commercial Marketing team, works closely with Marketing, Sales and Lines of Business to develop frameworks and strategies to ensure Sales, Marketing, and Product Management teams are successful
  • Develops financial and market performance KPIs to allow for program monitoring against strategic, corporate and operating goals. Evaluates results and effectiveness of the strategies
  • Builds, manages and leverages relationships with key stakeholders within sales, marketing, product teams and corporate communications to ensure alignment and drive innovation and market engagement
  • Develops and maintains an external network to regularly benchmark and remain current on future trends and developments related to government standards, industry practices, legislation, guidelines, new technologies, and programs related to the Industry.

Qualifications

Education

  • MBA or Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or Business Administration, or equivalent education with relevant experience

Experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience in developing and recommending strategies to ensure marketing and sales success
  • 3-5 years’ experience in market analysis and research

Other Candidate Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in identifying new growth opportunities and developing and implementing strategies to generate incremental revenue
  • Demonstrated experience in business case development
  • Demonstrated experience in leading projects
  • Strong ability in developing market insight and conclusions based on available information and data
  • Expert in MS Excel, MS Access or other data analysis software
  • Ability to develop cost/benefit analyses and forecasting models
  • Ability to interpret and present financial data
  • Ability to motivate and influence others and negotiate
  • Sound judgement and decision making skills, with proven abilities in problem analysis and resolution
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills to stakeholders at multiple levels

Other Information

This is a one year term position from September 2021 to September 2022

This particular 1 year term position, covering a maternity leave, has more of a project management and integration focus than the regular, permanent Manager, Market Strategy and Development Manager. Below are the key points this position will focus on.

Consolidate all internal and external communication requests and manage dynamic calendar

Liase with project stakeholders, consolidate content, manage review process

Ensure deadlines and communication goals are met

Requires in-depth understanding of Lines of Business initiatives, understanding of corporate strategy/objectives and key stakeholders, audiences and integration activities

Will be required to support on an ad hoc basis with strategic research related to ongoing projects

Advanced use of Microsoft office is a must (powerpoint, excel, word)

Attention to detail, time management, proficient communication and business writing

Works well as part of a team

Strong project management and research and analysis skills required for this role.
