Role Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Payroll & Benefits this position would be responsible for overseeing full cycle payroll & benefits for various corporate entities in Canada & US.

Core Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for and oversee full payroll cycle including processing, posting to the GL, budgeting, reconciliations, variance analysis, as well as benefits administration.
  • Support organizational performance by continued leadership and mentorship of staff and co-workers.
  • Manages HRIS projects including development, reporting, and the implementation of new initiatives
  • Responsible for CDN & US payroll tax compliance and reporting.
  • Working with HR to identify, prioritize and implement on cross departmental efficiencies
  • Manages the entire process in preparation, submission, verification and posting of payrolls in the timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure compliance to all employment legislation and regulatory guidelines
  • Establish appropriate control to ensure compliance with payroll processes, company policy and legislative requirements
  • Review general ledger accounts related to payrolls
  • Perform calculations and related entries for bonuses, commissions, taxable benefits, etc
  • Prepares payroll, benefits and HR reports as required
  • Administers all benefit payments made to 3rd party carriers, including Government remittance
  • Performs calendar year end related activities, including updating taxable benefits, producingT4’s and T4A’s and their summaries, reviewing and responding to PIER reports, W2s and ACA reporting
  • Manages Time and Attendance system (ABI) & payroll system (UKG)
  • Manages Payroll Tax Compliance
  • Audit employees’ tax setup to ensure compliance with state tax rules
  • Prepare journal entries for any tax adjustments
  • Register for new state and local tax IDs when required
  • Complete labor statistical reports such as census and multiple work site reports
  • Complete tax filings reconciliations and reviews of T4, W2, T4A-NR, T4A
  • Prepare Tax Returns (T737) and provide on-going tax, accounting and systems support
  • Ensure tax accounts are balanced and are reconciled
  • Allocate appropriate payroll event costs to various departments and entities
  • Process and administer bill backs for non-OEG companies (Payroll, Benefits, & Tax) and from Time & Attendance Software (internal & external clients)
  • Maintain general ledger accounts in HRIS System
  • Request payments for 3rd party vendors related to payroll & benefits
  • Work with the Finance department provide contractor information for WCB returns

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience
  • 5+ years of experience in processing full cycle payroll
  • CPM designation with the Canadian Payroll Association would be an asset
  • Extensive working knowledge of payroll, HRIS and time & attendance systems is preferred, experience with UKG, ABI and Great Plains would be an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, mentor, team building and support staff
  • Capable of handling confidential, sensitive and personal information
  • Strong planning and organization skills to determine priorities with strict deadlines
  • Well organized with superior attention to detail
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office; including advanced Excel
