Job description: Sungold Organics is hiring a market gardener. This is an entry-level position that requires no prior farming experience, although an aptitude for physical work and an interest in learning about small-scale agriculture are certainly assets.
The garden is located on a beautiful tree-lined property outside of Mount Brydges, about a twenty-five minute drive from downtown London. We cultivate one acre of crops using a variety of hand tools and intensive growing techniques. The garden produces a variety of vegetables and herbs which are sold through two weekly markets in London and to local restaurants and retailers. We place a strong emphasis on growing top quality produce, and therefore attention to detail is an important quality in an applicant. The work is physically demanding but highly rewarding; we will witness the seasons change, cross paths with a variety of wildlife, and cultivate many different crops from seed to harvest. We grow in accordance with the organic standard, although the farm is not certified. More recently our techniques have evolved to limit the amount of tillage performed in the garden in an ongoing effort to maintain and improve soil ecology.

- Part-time position (2-3 eight-hour days per week, hours may fluctuate throughout the season) starts: April – May
- Approximate duration is through to the end of September with the option of some work into October
- Starting wage will be $18.00 / hour, with opportunities for growth
- Applicant must have access to transportation to Mount Brydges (about 25 minutes from London), as the farm is not serviced by public transit
- Duties will include; seeding, bed prep, transplanting, weeding, and cultivation right through to harvesting, washing, and packing produce
- Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (rain, heat, cold, wind, mosquitos) are essential assets
- Conscientiousness, a positive outlook, and the ability to communicate effectively, follow instruction, and work independently are important qualities
- Applicants interested in returning for a full season next year will be prioritized
