Job title: Mental Health Clinical Advisor – Registered mental health clinician

Job description: Overview

Are you a registered mental health clinician who would like to collaborate with a team of professionals focused on treatment plans that support clients’ return to work and function? We have opportunities for Mental Health Clinical Advisors to support our claims teams with service decisions by providing clinical advice and guidance on appropriate service options to assist injured workers in their recovery from psychological injuries.

In this role, you’ll develop partnerships with WorkSafeBC staff and external stakeholders to connect on initial treatment services and review existing treatment services. Your deep understanding of DSM diagnoses and best-practice approaches to treatment, along with your strong communication skills, will assist you in supporting workers’ recovery and return to work.

How you’ll make a difference: You’ll provide compassionate, supportive service to people injured at work.

Where you’ll work

WorkSafeBC, we currently offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you’ll work a Monday to Friday week, primarily from your B.C. home and occasionally onsite at the Richmond office.

What you’ll do

  • Maintain knowledge and familiarity of best-practice/evidence-based interventions related to mental health conditions and provide guidance to claims teams about treatment approaches for specific disorders and individual circumstances of each worker
  • Consult on mental health treatment to interdisciplinary teams to help injured workers return back to work and liaise with providers and other parties as needed to discuss treatment goals
  • Conduct clinical reviews of all relevant claim information to formulate an understanding of a worker’s clinical presentation to determine best fit for mental health interventions
  • Identify return to work factors that may facilitate treatment or that are acting as barriers to engagement with treatment and recommend solutions that can include referrals to internal or external supports
  • Apply a compassion-informed model when considering best-fit service options

Is this a good fit for you?

We’re looking for people who can:

  • Synthesize a large amount of clinical information and offer clinical guidance based on that information
  • Clearly and professionally present expert knowledge, opinions and ideas, both verbally and in writing, to a variety of individuals and groups
  • Apply theoretical knowledge to the assessment, interpretation, planning, and implementation of active treatment programs for injured workers within current accepted practice guidelines in an active rehabilitation setting
  • Take initiative, recognize issues, and implement solutions
  • Interact, establish rapport, and build trust with clients, colleagues, and others in a professional and sensitive manner in a clinically complex and culturally diverse environment
  • Work collaboratively in a team

Your background and experience

  • A master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or Social Work with a clinical designation and registration with one of the following: British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, or British Columbia College of Social Workers
  • A minimum of four years of experience that demonstrates a broad knowledge of mental health treatment for psychological conditions; experience must include the direct provision of mental health treatment for psychological conditions
  • Strong communication skills
