Job description: Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Care Manager for Children Youth & Families Addiction and Mental Health, the Addiction and Mental Health Therapist (AMHT) with the Crisis Team will provide mental health and risk assessment, triage and referral, as well as crisis intervention, de-escalation and short term brief solution focused therapy. This position will require the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and the flexibility to adjust to the demands of ongoing program development. The AMHT works as part of the Crisis Team and will be required to respond to Emergency Departments (may include Suburban ED’s after hours, evenings and weekends) and community homes/agencies to provide mobile Mental Health and risk assessments. The AMHT will be required to provide Children’s Crisis telephone service along with appropriate intervention and response to crisis situations as needed. In addition, scheduled time providing Walk-in services utilizing a Solution Focused approach will be expected. The AMHT will also be required to liaise with the Urgent Clinic Psychiatrist, Emergency Room Consultation/ Psychiatry staff, the Psychiatrist on-call, EPS/RCMP and other community partners, as well as have significant knowledge with both facility and community resources in order to effectively assess and refer clients appropriately. Appropriate documentation and statistical data collection required. The AMHT will also be involved in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development activities, liaison with community partners and other related duties as required.

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Psychology; or master’s degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master’s or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master’s degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college. Additional Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or Nursing with considerable experience in mental health assessment and intervention. An equivalent level of education and experience will be considered. Registration in a professional regulatory body as defined by the Health Professions Act (CARNA, CRPNA, ACOT, CAP, ACSW). Registered Social Workers must be authorized to perform psychosocial interventions. Provisional status with current registration with CAP will be considered. 3-5 years of direct clinical experience with the focus on children, youth and their families, preferably in a community mental health setting. Formal training in a therapeutic modality of intervention may include, but is not limited to, Solution focused Therapy, CBT, Narrative, Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems, etc. Proficiency with computers, including MS Office Suite. Experience in Suicide Risk Management (assessment and intervention). Current CPR certification. Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training. Preferred Qualifications:
Connect Care experience is preferred.
