Responsibilities
As a vital member of the Operations Team, the Operations Planner will ensure that the Production Team is provided with the information, tools, and materials required to execute production tasks such as test plans, preparation for maintenance actions, and other production projects. He/she will participate in the Integrated Planning Cell, alongside the Maintenance Coordinator, Maintenance Planner and Shift Engineer. A key deliverable is a daily Integrated Activity Plan (IAP), produced for and referred to in the daily Afternoon Coordination Meeting.

The Operations Planner understands the workings of the Carbon Engineering Innovation Centre and the activities occurring each day and works with Maintenance, Engineering, and the Production Manager to integrate plant activities and drive the completion of critical path tasks. He/she will deputize for the Manager, Production during periods of absence and give direction to Shift Supervisors and others as required.

This role reports to the Manager, Production and is based in Squamish BC.

This position follows Carbon Engineering regular weekday dayshift schedule and is eligible for the 9/80 schedule.

Key Accountabilities

  • Test Campaigns
  • Deconflict test campaign schedules with preventive/corrective maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure that required resources and logistics are in place for test campaign execution (shift staffing, equipment, feedstock, waste disposal etc.).
  • Provide feedback to Engineering in the development, communication, and execution of test campaigns.
  • Maintenance Coordination
  • Act as the primary conduit of communication between Production and Maintenance.
  • Ensure scheduled work will not conflict with other activities.
  • Support the Maintenance Planner in scoping isolations, LOTOs, and line breaks and then communicate instructions to Shift Supervisors for execution.
  • Support the Maintenance Planner in outage planning.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Operations leadership when changing work order priority.
  • Production Operations
  • Plan and schedule Production Operational activities (cleanouts, acid washes, etc.) and ensure that Production has all tools needed to successfully complete activities.
  • Support the Manager, Production, to identify Production project scopes and provide proper instruction, tools, parts, and hazard controls for the job to facilitate safe, efficient, and value-added work.
  • Prepare and monitor purchase requisitions and follow up as required.
  • Develop and provide any practices, procedures, risk assessments, check sheets, P&IDs, temporary connection plans, safeguard override plans, isolations, etc. required.
  • Develop safe shutdown, start-up, purging, cleaning, and isolation plans for equipment.
  • Support the Operational Excellence Program.
  • Contribute to Daily Directives and address day to day concerns along with the Operations Supervisors and Production Manager.
  • Management of Change (MOC)
  • Understand the scope of planned changes and the isolation and cleaning requirements to complete installation of planned changes.
  • Review commissioning plans and schedule commissioning of changes.
  • Coordinate with Projects and Operations Trainer to train all operators on new changes.
  • Feedstock and Generated Material Inventory
  • Monitor and maintain chemical inventories in the plant to maintain the ability to execute test campaigns.
  • Coordinate with Procurement personnel to maintain a record of plant chemical inventories and complete regular audits.
  • Coordinate the disposal of hazardous and nonhazardous waste generated by the plant.
  • Coordinate requests for shipment of generated material to other vendors for off-site testing, including material generation, lab analysis, and preparation of material for shipment.
  • Act as the focal point for the procurement, storage, and maintenance of Production-specific tools and equipment.

Safety

  • Demonstrate a positive safety culture.
  • Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions, processes, or actions within the workplace.
  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
  • Demonstrate leadership and HSE processes and practices in the plant.
  • Maintain competency and effectiveness to assist operations during upsets or emergency situations.

Technical

  • Strong leadership behaviours, promoting safety and championing an attitude of respect, improvement, and excellence.
  • Strong understanding of and aptitude for Production Operations in a chemical plant.
  • Skill in isolation, de-pressurizing, energy source control and management, and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO).
  • Ability to read and explain P&IDs, SOPs, Process Control Narratives, Test plans.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting information in both group and individual settings.
  • Skill in decision making, facilitation, negotiation, and leading by example.
  • Must be a person of integrity, capable of excellent judgement and decision-making skills, showing the utmost discretion in the management of confidential corporate information.
  • Skill in time management and planning and executing projects.

Education and Experience
Education:

  • Grade 12 or GED. A technical degree or diploma is preferable.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of related industry experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Operations background with supervisory or other leadership experience.
  • Carbon Engineering experience & knowledge in the following would be an asset:
  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
  • Incident Reporting
  • Management of Change
  • Microsoft Project, project planning

Compensation

  • $78,030 to $117,000 Base Salary
