Job description: Here at 10 Acres Farm we are inspired to grow a range of different organic foods – some familiar, some new, always unique and nutritious. Our vegetables are mainly grown from heirloom seeds and are selected for their outstanding flavours and nutrient value, their suitability to our West Coast climate, and visual appeal.

We are the farm in farm to table. Our farm supports 3 restaurants and a café, supplying roughly 10% of the produce needs for these outlets. We organically grow sunchokes, onions, celeriac, summer squash, winter squash, melons, cut flowers, tomatoes, peppers, parsnips, garlic, kale, chard, beets, tomatillos, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, apples, pairs, lemons, figs, loganberries, marionberries, and grapes. We raise pigs, and turkeys, and will have ducks and chickens by the end of the summer. To say we do a lot is to understate our mission. In addition to trying our hands at a great many things, we abide by a strong top-down ethos to only do what we know we can do well. It sounds crazy, we know. Do a lot and be the best at it.

The future holds even loftier aspirations for 10 Acres. This summer we will break ground on an open-air market here on the farm. By 2022, we will be making cider here, and looking towards producing our own spirits. It’s an exciting time of change and growth here at 10 Acres, and we need someone great to round out our team.

The Job

As a farm hand, you are involved in virtually all farm tasks throughout the entire growing season. You will learn all of our methods including: field and bed preparation, nursery and direct seeding, greenhouse management, weed and pest management, harvest and packing. Some minor construction, installations and painting are expected this season.

We intend to create an open, fun and healthy work environment. We want to attract like-minded people who share our passion for sustainable agriculture. There is an incredible amount of heavy work here at 10 Acre, so you must be able to lift 50 lbs. over and over and over again.

Our schedule fluctuates throughout the season and can be flexible, with the winters being a bit slower around the farm and the Spring and Summer being really busy, with us increasing our hours to compensate for the workload.

Experience and Qualifications:

You have a positive, upbeat personality; an energetic, focused approach to the workplace; and stellar interpersonal skills – you are friendly, gracious and helpful. You take verbal, written and practical instructions easily, first mastering a task and then maximizing efficiency. You are a team player, balanced with the ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner. You enjoy physical, meditative work. You have worked a minimum of one year on a farm.
