Job description: The Long Point Region Conservation Authority invites applications for an Outdoor Education Assistant at Backus Heritage Conservation Area. The successful candidate will assist the Outdoor Educator in the development and delivery of all recreational and educational conservation programs and tours for a diverse client base. The programs and tours center around the Conservation Education Centre. The student will also be responsible for program planning, activity scheduling, record keeping and management of program sites and equipment.

Qualifications:

• Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada, be a resident of Ontario and be between the ages 15 and 30
• Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively in a team framework

• Ideally, the student will be studying Environmental Science, Geography or related field with an emphasis in Resources Management. An interest in teaching is also helpful

• Must be able to provide a satisfactory police record check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

Additional Qualifications and Experience:

• Outgoing personality and excellent communication skills
• Interest and experience with park operations, natural history and tourism an asset
• Experience with customer service, and leading or organizing tours, presentations, or recreational programming in a paid employment or volunteer setting an asset
• A drivers license and reliable vehicle is an asset

Responsibilities:

• Meet and greet all visitors to the Conservation Education Centre, providing excellent customer service

• Provide interpretation and tours of conservation displays and answer questions
• Assist in the development, organization and delivery of group tours, public events and scheduled weekend programming, including nature focused crafts, hikes, and presentations
• Maintain the cleanliness of public areas and conservation displays
• Assist in the rejuvenation of nature focused programs and displays, as required

• Keep accurate record of all relevant statistics
• Evening and weekend work is required
