Job Description

We are currently looking for you to take on the role of Paint Process Engineer based out of our Oshawa Assembly plant. The Paint Shop Process Engineer has responsibility for engaging in machine and plant maintenance operations, along with process control activities in the Paint Shop. The work involves a considerable amount of initiative in decision making and is accompanied by a high level of independent judgment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop a proactive safety culture by engaging team members and peers in our safety processes

Understood and effective use of Global Manufacturing System

Ensure that paint processes are maintained and running effectively for vehicle production

Problem-solve (analyze data, determine root causes, develop implementation plans) and resolve issues which are affecting paint shop metrics and document appropriately

Support implementation of new processes and equipment

Maintain process documentation

Supervise all assigned indirect process personnel and production personnel

Complies and resolves disputes with the terms of local and national labor agreements

Build and maintain working relationships with employees, union, management and suppliers

Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to improve operations by reducing costs, reducing energy usage, improve quality, etc.

Supports the design and engineering of maintenance, utility and construction projects to meet existing and projected requirements

Interface with production/maintenance personnel, plant leadership and others outside the plant (Manufacturing Engineering, suppliers, etc.) as needed to resolve issues, implement improvements and communicate status and opportunities, etc.

Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions

Provide technical support for specific plant operations

Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise

Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities

Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills

Must be willing to rotate shifts if required, and be available to work overtime including weekends.

Communicate status to following shifts

Understand and execute PFMEA, Process Control Plans, manufacturing processes, and management systems as they relate to production operations

Support Department Business Plan Deployment (BPD) activities

Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems

Additional Job Description

Responsible for supporting activities that may include:

SORs and project management for tools, stations or specific technologies.

Typically part of a larger effort or project

Manufacturing process definition

Sequence of operations

Human factors consideration

Efficient material flow

Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high quality part

Providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources

Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.

REQUIREMENTS

All Required Safety Training under GWSS

All required Global Manufacturing System (GMS) Training

Completion of the GM Paint Development Program preferred

High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

Knowledge of paint-related technologies and equipment (coatings, corrosion, sealing, etc.)

Knowledge of Fanuc paint robots, PaintPro software, and Paint application equipment preferred

Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required

High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others

Knowledge of Red X, Six Sigma, or other problem-solving techniques preferred

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing related field or equivalent experience
