Job description: The Partnership Manager is one of two key lead positions in the establishment, launch and operation of all activities for the new Barrett Centre of Innovation in Sustainable Urban Agriculture. This position works closely with the Farm Manager and is responsible for the development of industry, government, community, stakeholder and other key partnerships that will result in new opportunities, resources and funds for the centre. The incumbent serves as the administrative lead for the centre and is responsible for the process to identify and establish a new farm site and partner, developing business cases and plans for core operations and activities, and creating opportunities and resources that will provide greater access to urban farming materials, resources and knowledge developed by the Barrett Centre.

The position’s range of responsibilities includes but are not limited to:

  • Identify potential land partners and determine suitability based on a rigorous and established set of criteria.
  • Establish a strong network of contacts in Durham Region, across Ontario and beyond that supports and advances the work of the Barrett Centre.
  • Working with the Office of Development, will pursue opportunities to leverage funding and other resources that will advance the work of the Barrett Centre.
  • Lead an external panel/ roundtable to advise on the work of the Barrett Centre.
  • Represent the Barrett Centre at industry, community and other events and activities.
  • Represent the Barrett Centre on internal and external committees to help build stronger links with the community.
  • Present publicly about the Barrett Centre, its activities, achievements and opportunities for partnerships.Support Farm Manager and Weston Centre Field Supervisor to integrate new systems into existing farm operations.
  • Establish field placement and other work opportunities for students in the development and operation of the new farm site, existing college farm and in publicly presenting the farm model.
  • Support development of new post-secondary credentials to address the goals and objectives of the Centre.
  • Work with ORSIE to support its strategic objectives and create opportunities for students to engage in research activities.
  • Work with other members of the Weston Centre, School of HHS and broader Durham College to identify new opportunities to collaborate across programs and departments.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a three-year credential in business, horticulture, agriculture or relevant program. The incumbent will have a minimum of three years business experience to include experience sitting on formal boards, committees and other bodies where good governance principles are followed. Knowledge of or experience working in agriculture or agri-food related industry. Experience working with industry and key influencers to advance business interests. Ability to work professionally and effectively with people at all levels in and outside of the college. Knowledge of the different levels of government and how they fund projects and organizations.

The successful incumbent will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be adaptable and flexible with demonstrated innovative problem-solving skills. They will be confident in providing guidance and direction in a team setting, and have the ability to work professionally and effectively with people at all levels in and outside of the college, consistently acting with tact, integrity, diplomacy and the ability to maintain confidentiality. The incumbent will have strong organizational and time-management skills in planning, executing and completing tasks, and be competent in the use of spreadsheets for planning and data collection. They will be self-directed and motivated, yet able to work well as part of a bigger team.
